GNU/Linux
The complete name for the Operating system often known simply as Linux. The GNU project, initiated by Richard Stallman in 1983, began by rewriting software, such as a C compiler, vital system utilities, and (text) editors like emacs. Together with the Linux kernel, they form a Free software Operating system.
