Den Haag Contemporary Art Week-End
Page created and updated by Frederico and Martin concerning the commission given by The Hague Contemporary for Den Haag Art Week-end.
Less strutured but more spontaneous informations and live notes to be found on this pad. Also including the very first meetings notes with All XPUB.
Proposal
As a poetic tool offered to the visitors of the Hague Art Weekend, two students from the Master Experimental Publishing, Piet Zwart Institute, developed a Web app allowing to compose and generate custom routes across the different cultural locations of the city. These routes are generated from a series of combined words picked by the player, creating speculative poetry and offering many ways to explore the diverse manifestations from the event's partners.
About the event
Den Haag Contemporary Art Week-End
- Event: 8 - 11 July 2021 (4 days)
This year, The Hague Contemporary is celebrating their fourth edition of The Hague Contemporary Art Weekend. During the four-day event, The Hague takes centre stage, showcasing the latest developments in contemporary art the city has to offer. From July 8 to 11, exhibitions, tours, talks and pop-up presentations from over twenty art institutions will be taking place across the city. After the kick-off at the art school KABK, well-known museums, renowned galleries, experimental presentation spaces and emerging artists’ initiatives will offer the best from the art scene.
About the commission
Inspired by the Special Issue 14 and Earthrise mecanics, The Hague Contemporary Art suggest us to create something similar for Den Haag Art Week-End.
Budget is (only) 500 euros. Please put here all informations we have about what they want, and try to know as much as we can as early as possible to avoid last minute changes and disasters.

Our goal
text
What we want to do
We want to give the opportunity to every visitor to use a tool that would suggest differens paths to explore what these institutions has to offer.
These paths shouldn't include all locations but only a few, as it would be impossible and even pointless to visit all them in a day.
To create these paths, we gonna investigate what each of these places are/respresents and suggest, what do they include, where they are located, and in which field they could belong. In a second step, we will then be able to connect them by different kind of affinities (Example: Page not Found = #bookshop, #smallrange #exhibitionspace, #art, #design, #publishing / West = #ContemporaryArt #ContemporaryArtCenter, #library / etc).
Instead of only puting things inside boxes and categories, we would also want to suggest a free path that the user/visitor could draw or randomize the path by themselves.
Planning / To do list

Location between every institution must always be considered in order to avoid paths that doesn't make any sense in terms of chronology. If 4 locations are included in a path, this path should be close from a line and avoid any backward direction. The path could be shown on a map overview.
