This time I focused on systemic bias and sociopolitical pressures on identity.
I gave two distinct examples: (a) the reinforcement of stereotypes and (b) exclusion as a manner of oppression.
For (a) I projected a video, which was an iteration of this piece, where I included footage of myself recorded through a cell phone, trying to mimic the gestures on the screen.
For (b) I made a small interactive piece based on a recently published article (I saw a photo of the printed version on 11/03)regarding flagged vocabulary in USA federal websites.

The project was supported by props (lamp, briefcase, physical copy of the newspaper that included the article I used, magnifying glass) and a poem/description:
Thoughts besides the obvious
The temporal element.
Hypothesis: In the 80's and 90's perhaps direct exposure to stereotypes through advertising was a more successful tool for reinforcing stereotypes. Exclusion seems to be necessary now, since the available vocabulary for diversity and otherness is much more widespread.
Gender.
The video was very much "female" in its energy (also the themes were very much based on what I considered more triggering) while the bureaucratic atmosphere surrounding the flagged words piece emitted a "male" sternness.
Feeback
Positive: Powerful, well executed, clear, atmospheric.
Negative: The two parts aren't clearly connected.
