Sans Titres

Sans Titres is an Artistic publication launched in 2013.
I got asked to work on various levels such as concept, technological advice and the development, although a programmer undertook the building of the whole 3d environment. The requirement was to create a space that could host exhibitions with a modulable architecture yet referring to a physical exhibition space. The first edition, #0, was meant as a prototype for getting founds and see how the system could work.

Together with the initiator of the project, we worked on a geometrical grid that would form the basis for opening the rooms depending on the curatorial needs over the future exhibitions. It felt a bit like playing Tetris. At first I wasn't too sure about the idea. The 3D interface seemed a bit heavy and I felt like the metaphorical paradigm of the exhibition space may be a bit constraining. On a more personal level, frustration arose from the sensation that the work could have been visually more coherent. (I'm referring to the navigating interface)

Looking back at it, I like how disorientating the experience of going through it feels like. From the inside, what you may encounter within the rooms is not a given. It forces exploration and concentration for accessing the content. It is far from perfect but I finally enjoy the old fashion game feel.

The second edition left the 3D space behind to go for something more flat and perhaps easier to navigate.[1] This one's focus is on one work at a time and is easily navigable. Although I am now wondering what's the meaning of keeping a floor plan navigation and the “rooms” analogy since the structure is not translated in 3D anymore? By the time I had decided to leave the project. Retrospectively, I makes me wonder if the illusionary 3D environment (prolongating the space of the body) enabled information to not remain just merely static and abstract but suggestively experienced by the human body (as recognized by his senses) and allowed for more serendipity (?).
