JAPANESE MYTHOLOGY

- Shinto - every natural thing has a Kami (spirit) - Some animals/vegetables are descended from deities

ORIGIN:

  • out of the primeval oily ocean mass, reed like substance emerged, then a male and female came into being
  • 2 deities gods formed out of this, travelled from heavens on a rainbow to the oily mass, dipped a spear into it and the drops became an island (izanagi & izanami)
  • offspring of these 2 were geography, islands, waterfalls, mountains, trees, herbs, wind
  • wind blew away the mist and revealed the scattered islands
  • first child miscarried due to the dude fucking up the marriage ceremony and the jellyfish like creature was thrown in the sea
  • the last child birth killed izanami, turned out to be god of fire
  • She went to Yomi, the land of gloom, izanagi followed her there but was chased out by her and her hideous female spirit entourage, at the portal between worlds, she promised to kill 1000, he promised to create 1500
  • after being purified (washed) from the effects of the descent to the underworld, he gave birth to the sun goddess, the moon god, and susano the storm god. (maybe created from his eyes)
