Typically, a "kiosk" mode refers to setting up a web browser (or other software) to operate on a machine left in a public space, or other kind of semi-public installation (like in a gallery). Kiosk modes generally run the software fullscreen and remove interface elements that would allow people to quit the program, or navigate away from the intended material.
