"smokey eyes"
9 videos playing simultaneously on the same screen. each video have the same size, they are arranged on 3 rows, each row has 3 videos. the videos are found on youtube. each video shows a young woman demonstrating her own version of eye make up called "smokey eyes". this amateur videos are known on youtube as make up tutorials. the videos are edited to have the same duration (around 4 min). the audio plays all the 9 sounds of the videos (the girls explaining their actions) which creates a buzzy noise. due to the edit the videos also have few matching frames: movements that all the girls perform simultaneously. for example when they show to the webcam (to their viewers) the make up product that they are going to use for the next step.

A small, square space was build next to a window at the Rietveld Academie in the way that the window is incorporated as the forth wall of the space. The space is empty except from a pair of binoculars and a set of speakers. The binoculars are attached to a tripod and placed on a hight of an eye level. they are directed towards the window. looking through them the viewer can see the playground of the neighboring elementary school. the space is open for the visitors only at the lunch time and only one by one. looking thought the binoculars the viewer sees the playground which is normally full of children playing on their lunch break. this live-view is accompanied with the soundtracks of 80's suspense movies which continuously plays from the speakers.
"family pictures"
a printed book containing my family photos. each picture appears twice, next to each other (on the left and right page). on the left side a picture is in its original state (condition), on the right side the image is different: it's improved using photoshop. for some of the images the difference is almost unnoticeable (subtile) for the others is quite obvious. the differences are peculiar to each image. for example the original image is slightly crooked since the person who made the picture (someone in my family) wasn't holding the camera straight or other image that is missing details due to overexposure. the pictures on the right are corrected accordingly.

i was interested in the phenomena of sharing a knowledge (skills) via youtube. the question that was coming up throughout was "why are there so many people sharing the same information?" a simple question such us "how to tie a tie" brings thousands of videos responses, if not millions. no doubt that there are variations to "tying a tie" but there can't be as many. so these videos are more than a way to share a knowledge, if they were, the uploader would have check the existing videos and if the knowledge he is going to share is already there he would stop.
it seemed that this videos are a way of sharing yourself and your personality.

with this work i was experimenting with the conceptions of reality and fiction. my aim was to create a moment/space where this two "realities" are operating simultaneously. i wanted to see what happens when these two opposing moods overlap each other and the tension this create?
"family pictures"
this book has a really simple, sentimental story. i made it because i missed my family. because of my school i moved to Holland, leaving my family back at home. the question that kept bothering me was "what i can do for my family with the knowledge that i got from my study ? ".
