- kate (with syntax (color) support for many languages, including Python)
- emacs and vi of course (for old-skool cred ;)
OS X
- Smultron (open source and solid)
- TextMate (full-featured shareware)
- WriteRoom (minimal editor inappropriate for working on code but great for meeting writing deadlines)
