GEOCACHING

a world-wide coordinate based treasure hunt

Researching https://www.geocaching.com

I was curious about the different kinds of geocaches hidden in the city of Rotterdam and wether I could find some.
This is why I made a geocaching account and started to pick some caches on the map around me to look for. I looked up different styles/sizes of containers and possible hiding spots. The minimum content always has to be a logbook. The larger the cache is the more things can be placed inside. There are caches with toys or other items inside, which are called 'swag'. The rule is to take something and replace it with something else of equal or higher value.

I did some research to understand the code of conduct around making geocaches and what regulations to follow. There seems to be a few general points to really keep in mind. The cache should be located close to where you live, so you are able to check up on it and fix it if it's damaged etc. Also caches should be hidden in a distance of at least 180m of each other. You should not promote any commercial or non-commercial causes using geocaching. You are not able to publish a cache on the website without it being approved by a volunteer first.
