Readings for next week
first I think the two articles Maria X posted are nicely relevant to what we’ll be covering next week, so give them a look:
@_Maria Χ|74 said:
Some nice readings:
(a) A link to the editorial of vol. 25, issue 2 (2002) of *The Journal for Media History*, which contains a long, very enlightning paragraph on the definition of "radio archives". The whole article (in fact the whole issue) is worth reading: https://tmgonline.nl/articles/10.18146/tmg.841
(b) An article from the same issue, good to skim through in order to understand the concept of "silent radio archive": https://tmgonline.nl/articles/10.18146/tmg.822
and second, a text from German theater maker and theoretician Bertolt Brecht, The Radio as a Communications Apparatus )
Happy Reading and see you next Monday!

Today's sesh:
Using the Wordhole to articulate Active Archive SI
Note: the Wordhole, has a very stable structure (which is provided in part by the syntax of Wikimedia), there is room for play and experiment with media (sound files and video links) and modes of address.
Agenda:
Discuss Zine Camp; live radio performance.
+ Use the Wordhole to codify various ways you have found to work together as "protocols" or "rituals". How can such "protocols" or "rituals" guide a performance like Sunday's live radio broadcast (or other moments)?
+ Use the Wordhole to describe individual practices you have developed in relation to Active Archive SI
+ Consider "Collaborative" and "Distributive" practices
As in Scratch Orchestra, discussed in: https://www.metamute.org/editorial/articles/all-problems-notation-will-be-solved-masses
+ Paraphrasing down the Wordhole.
+ How can the Wordhole work for the Reader we are producing? (providing summaries, describing practices and processes developed during Active Archive SI)
Elements produced + practices performed

- 14:00 - 17:00 : Machine Listening workshop with Ahnjili ZhuParris
Ahnjili ZhuParris: Machine Listening Workshop
How can a computer understand voice. Beyond applications like speech to text, tuning an audio recording into a text transcription, what other ways can voice be represented (pace, hesitation, changes of pitch). How can these representations be used to index and (re) order audio, and how can machine learning techniques be applied to group or classify audio. Beyond the hype of AI that can do anything, what is actually still a challenge for algorithmic approaches to voice. What dangers exist with these techniques, and how can one remain a critical practitioner exploring urgent and relevant questions while engaging with these new tools?
Ahnjili ZhuParris is a data scientist with a critical artist practice. She will also be participating at the Impakt festival in Utrecht this November.
