Game rules
Original rules : https://www.ultraboardgames.com/coup/game-rules.php
Set up
Shuffle the ally cards and give two allies to each player. Players can always look back at their cards but must keep them secret. Place the remaining cards in the middle of the play area as the deck.
Give each player 2 tokens. Each player's tokens must be kept visible. Place the remaining tokens in the middle of the play area as the Treasury.
Influence
Facedown cards in front of a player represent who their allies during this election. These characters will be what gives the player influence.
Every time a player loses an influence they have to turn over and reveal one of their allies. They can chose to read their description.
Each player always chooses which of their own allies they wish to reveal when they lose its influence.
When a player has lost all their influence they are exiled and out of the game.
Game play
The game is played in turns in clockwise order. Each turn a player chooses one action only.
(After the action is chosen other players have an opportunity to call them out or counteract that action, more on that coming)
A player may not pass.
You can choose between different types of action, depending on what you can afford :
A_ General Actions :
These actions are available to anyone, independly of their allies.
1. Collect 1 visibility boost :
You can collect one token to get a visibility boost
2. Find new funding :
You can collect two tokens (two visibility boosts) and get new funding
3. Block one of your opponents' ally :
If you've have accumulated enough influence (7 tokens), you can use this power to strip one of you opponents of one of their allies.
B_ THE ALLIES' actions
If you choose to call one of your allies to Action, you must claim that the required character is on one of your faced down cards.
You could be telling the truth or you could be bluffing. You will not need to reveal any of your allies unless you are called out. If you're not called out then you automatically succeed.
(We’ll get you elected ! ;))
The allies :
The CEO (Can collect 3 visibilty boosts + if you feel like it, block someone while they’re collecting fundings)
The lobbyist
(can give up three tokens and take down an opponents’ ally, can be blocked by the whistleblower)
The influencer
(can steal two coins from another player + can block a stealing)
The troll
(can exchange this card with a new ally in the deck + can block a stealing)
The whistleblower
(Can turn over the loss of an ally)
C_ Counteractions
Counteractions can be taken by other players to intervene or block a player's action.
Counteractions operate like ally actions. Players may claim to influence any of the characters and use their abilities to counteract another player. They may be telling the truth or bluffing.
They do not need to show any cards unless they are called out. Counteractions may be challenged, but if not called out, they automatically succeed. If an action is successfully counteracted, the action fails but any coins paid as the cost of the action remain spent.
