In my thesis I want to disclose my artistic journey and research to the current date. I will talk about my practice in relation to my research. Issues that will arise are photography and narration, the power of the gaze, representation of bodies, queer artistic strategies, photography's place in art history. I will place my work in a broader context in order to end up with an artist statement addressing the audience. | In my thesis I want to disclose my artistic journey and research to the current date. What is the thesis going to be about?
In my thesis I want to disclose my artistic journey and research to the current date. I will talk about my practice in relation to my research. Issues that will arise are photography and narration, the power of the gaze, representation of bodies, queer artistic strategies, photography's place in art history. I will place my work in a broader context in order to end up with an artist statement addressing the audience.
In chapter one I will identify my interest in photography and unpack my former practice and methodology. In chapter two I will investigate the change of narration in my work by moving away from representation and using found images and in chapter three I will place my work in a larger context among theorists and practitioners.
1. My interest in photography
- Former works & former research (documentary starting point, difference between nude and naked, image tradition of the male nude, power of gaze, John Berger)
- How Queer Theory has informed my work
2. Moving away from representation (beauty queens)
- towards appropriation
- creating a space between ("Denkraum" Aby Warburg?)
3. Broader context
