Hey! I spotted 'Mandelbrot' on your coding page. Are you into fractals? O.o '''< Thijs'''
</div>
'''Alessia >''' Hello! Sorry today was a really tough day, I didn't have much time to connect to this amazing platform, but
here I am! I Hope the workshop was good. Thanks for the photos!<br>
'''        >''' I love fractals! It's one of my favourite subjects. Not just fractals, all non-Euclidean geometry as well,
sacred geometry, the chaos theory, tessellation... Let's say all the metaphysical stuff, symbolic languages,
the motifs of aniconic religions (I always end up on religion and rituals ,Thijs, I'm in a topic prison).
What about you? Did you study fractals as well?<br>
'''        >''' Now that I have to really think about my knowledge of the subject to make a good impression on this stage,

'''        >''' Actually, there are plenty of artists who have tackled the subject, pre and post computer era. I remember
someone even wrote a fractal art manifesto. Absurd how fractals are literally everywhere. The relationship
between certain visual patterns and our conception of aesthetic as human being is wild.<br>
'''        >''' Beyond that, this is all an excuse because I am actually fascinated by psychedelics and some hallucinatory
          states where fractals always appear.<br>
'''        >''' As The letterboxd buddy I can't really not mention the visual art fractals in ''Enter the void'' from that

          quiet for a while<br>
'''        >''' fractals look incredibly cool pen plotted, you know? Just saying
<div style="text-align:right">
I'm sorry to hear that, Alessia. I hope you're managing okay. The workshop was very intense, but nice. '''< Thijs'''
After a 4 week break, I'm happy to be able to talk to everyone like this before delving deep into
the next SI. And talking about delving deep, you're treating me to a lot of Babble! Yay!

This is great news! My love for them runs infinitely deep, naturally (hehe). In fact, I did my '''<        '''
mathematics bachelor thesis on tesselations! Specifically on [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wang_tile#Domino_problem Wang tiles] and their 3-dimensional
analogues, and I discussed a particular set of tiles resp. cubes that produces only nonperiodic tilings.
Mind-boggling, really. I'd be happy to share it with you if you're interested (and if your ever expan-
ding list of things to read allows for it, haha)
Thank you for sharing these links. I'm actually well aware of your Letterboxd review of Enter the Void, '''<        '''
haha. The relation with human aesthetics is wild indeed. And it touches on some paradoxical infinity we
are so enthralled by, that seems to be so central to the human experience, yet we cannot wrap our heads
around it.

Hmm I started with a Mandelbrotplot during the break, but it [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coastline_paradox doesn't] seem to be progressing... '''<        '''
</div>
'''Alessia >''' UUuuh I forgot to say that yesterday I got into [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW8AEDf7R8c&t=62s&ab%20channel=Workbench a tutorial for Workbench] to make video rendering into ascii
art video rendering, and I discovered that the [https://scruss.com/blog/2020/07/07/the-mandelbrot-set-before-mandelbrot/ first rendering of the mandelbrot] set was actually produced
using ascii characters (I guess because of technical reason). Could be nice to find a way to pen plot images
directly using ascii, if it makes sense (I still need to check out your/Victor's python codes, analyse them
a bit, become a penplotterpython expert). Everything brings me back to ascii, everythings bring us back to
          the pen plotters. <br>
'''        >''' I feel controlled now, I won't ever write a new letterboxd review without feeling observed <br>
'''        >''' That's cool! Yes, obv I am interested. My bachelor thesis as well was focused on fractals, at least half of
it, I wrote about natural forms and repetitive patterns within the fractal, physical and mental fractal
landscapes, entropy and chaos, alchemy, fragmentation, aesthetic of the landscape... <br>
'''        >''' The Wang Tiles is lovely, I would say my fav is the Voronoi diagram, everything connected to the Delaunay
triangulation... Did you work on any practical technical project in particular for your thesis?

to see Fatou-Julia pop-up concretely in the maths like that (but obviously the details of the
proof are lost on me). Do you also have an interest in the mathematics of geometry? My thesis
had little wordly connections, but I've always been looking for ways to tie it into more vis-
ually, humanly or whateverly fueled fields. Plotting could be a nice way of doing that :) And
be sure to share any nice projects you encounter. I know I have a book on this at my parents'
place. I'll see if I can get it to the studio some time.

I feel like we'll be able to plot almost any text we'd like. There's a dedicated project page '''<'''
for [[Plothatching]] and [[User:Thijshijsijsjss/Pen_Plotting_Panache/Volume_Plotting|Volume Plotting]] now, the latter includes text. I suspect not all ascii
characters are present in this hpgl font though. But that should not be too much of a problem.
Btw today I was talking with Riviera about maybe trying to manipulate the buffer live through '''<'''
Tidal Cycles. Plotting the music in a way that is more dynamic than just the volume (+ascii!?)
Btwbtw, I'm having a delicioud Ink-free Italian cookie during this Babble :) '''<'''

worth checking out, both their music and history! (Also, [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-7L8RGKiWY a bonus Nardwuar interview])
There's much more to say, but I'm logging off for the day. Enjoy your evening :)) '''<'''

The doormat carried a nice surprise for me this morning. Thank you :) '''< Thijs'''

I've started Homo Ludens again, with more structured annotations this time. I have a question '''<'''
continuing our conversation from Tuesday. I recall you made a point about rituals being 'ins-
tinctual', inherent to any human structure. Huizinga makes a point of refuting play (an earl-
ier established foundation of ritual) being instinctual, in particular when describing the f-
irst characteristic of play: freedom. He states 'Only when play is a recognized cultural fun-
ction -- a rite, a ceremony -- is it bound up with notions of obligation and duty.' Any thou-
ghts? (But then on p10 he says there's no formal difference between play and ritual...)

'''Alessia >''' Glad to hear the italian post service is still working.
The idea with Riviera sounds great, have you ever used Tidal Cycled yourself?
I totally will send you the link to my really theory based thesis, it's in italian tho.
I checked Fugazi, nice '90 punky vibe, if you like classic punk/pop music I can restore my old knowledge and
send you some random punk music as well, as we don't have enough stuff to talk about already. No more bdsm
music. I am listening to Repeater by Fugazi in this exact moment, I feel it could be my fav so far from them <br>
'''        >''' Math as a subject has never been my strong point, so calculus is not really one of my skills, but when
applied to visual art it certainly fascinates me, so also geometry. If you need any help researching this
topic you know I have a keen passion for finding artworks, exploring intersections of disciplines. I am
trying to figure out if there is an automated way to create an ordered list of all the links we are sharing.<br>
'''        >''' It's lovely to hear you are making structured annotations, I feel the need to see them, because my own
annotations from Homo Ludens are like a nightmarish stream of thougths so I think it's time to change a
little bit my annotation style. This reminded me of one of the first conversations we had as xpub1, it was
about our own ways of annotating. For this 2024 one of my goal is becoming as good as the bible journaling

Yes using Babble has this effect unfortunately, it might be prudent to create some disclaimer for the new users. Anyway, I'm perplexed as why it couldn't be a stream of consciousness in a technological sense. There must be a way. I just remembered a cool book that delves into this topic. But this must be talked about in the new chatroom.

Alessia > Wow how did I send this message?

Alessia > I would love to be James Joyce
Do you know the King Crimson song 'Elephant Talk'? < Thijs

        > I guess it could be the perfect song for our first hip and fun marketing campaign
Yes. We must embrace the new wave for this new wave of communication technologies. < Thijs
Oh I had some more stuff to say but the workshop is starting o.o <
Hey, now heading home again! This morning, the weather was actually really pretty. < Thijs
I wanted to share these photos (but they don't really do justice to the pretty weather haha) <
Wow!

Hey! I spotted 'Mandelbrot' on your coding page. Are you into fractals? O.o < Thijs
Alessia > Hello! Sorry today was a really tough day, I didn't have much time to connect to this amazing platform, but
here I am! I Hope the workshop was good. Thanks for the photos!
> I love fractals! It's one of my favourite subjects. Not just fractals, all non-Euclidean geometry as well, sacred geometry, the chaos theory, tessellation... Let's say all the metaphysical stuff, symbolic languages, the motifs of aniconic religions (I always end up on religion and rituals ,Thijs, I'm in a topic prison). What about you? Did you study fractals as well?
> Now that I have to really think about my knowledge of the subject to make a good impression on this stage, one milion medieval c̸̼͇͖͓͈̟͑̓̈́ã̵̲̺͙̪̙͇̻̃̅ͅt̴͍͓̦̄̐͑̑͛̊̽̂̾͜͝ḩ̸̡͉̹̼̣͉̏̅̋͜o̷̭̣͊̇̽͗̐̔͆͘ḻ̶̭̪̝̬͙̦͕͉̻͂̏̾̾̋͘͠ḯ̶̛̲̠̭͖͊͗͌̌c̶̦̙̠͇̼̹͔̈́͛̋i̶̯̙̺̲̼̽̄̀̂̚͘͝͝s̶̪̿̄̋̎̑͆̇͝m̴̝̰̻̰̮͍̜͕͛͛͜͝ flavoured references exploded in my mind, Bible moralisée, illuminated manuscript
> Actually, there are plenty of artists who have tackled the subject, pre and post computer era. I remember someone even wrote a fractal art manifesto. Absurd how fractals are literally everywhere. The relationship between certain visual patterns and our conception of aesthetic as human being is wild.
> Beyond that, this is all an excuse because I am actually fascinated by psychedelics and some hallucinatory states where fractals always appear.
> As The letterboxd buddy I can't really not mention the visual art fractals in Enter the void from that crazy corrupt mind of Noè 45 minutes of visual trauma. Now that I mentioned it at least one time I can keep quiet for a while
> fractals look incredibly cool pen plotted, you know? Just saying
I'm sorry to hear that, Alessia. I hope you're managing okay. The workshop was very intense, but nice. < Thijs
After a 4 week break, I'm happy to be able to talk to everyone like this before delving deep into
the next SI. And talking about delving deep, you're treating me to a lot of Babble! Yay!

This is great news! My love for them runs infinitely deep, naturally (hehe). In fact, I did my <
mathematics bachelor thesis on tesselations! Specifically on Wang tiles and their 3-dimensional
analogues, and I discussed a particular set of tiles resp. cubes that produces only nonperiodic tilings.
Mind-boggling, really. I'd be happy to share it with you if you're interested (and if your ever expan-
ding list of things to read allows for it, haha)

Thank you for sharing these links. I'm actually well aware of your Letterboxd review of Enter the Void, <
haha. The relation with human aesthetics is wild indeed. And it touches on some paradoxical infinity we
are so enthralled by, that seems to be so central to the human experience, yet we cannot wrap our heads
around it.

Hmm I started with a Mandelbrotplot during the break, but it doesn't seem to be progressing... <
Alessia > UUuuh I forgot to say that yesterday I got into a tutorial for Workbench to make video rendering into ascii
art video rendering, and I discovered that the first rendering of the mandelbrot set was actually produced
using ascii characters (I guess because of technical reason). Could be nice to find a way to pen plot images
directly using ascii, if it makes sense (I still need to check out your/Victor's python codes, analyse them
a bit, become a penplotterpython expert). Everything brings me back to ascii, everythings bring us back to
          the pen plotters.
> I feel controlled now, I won't ever write a new letterboxd review without feeling observed
> That's cool! Yes, obv I am interested. My bachelor thesis as well was focused on fractals, at least half of it, I wrote about natural forms and repetitive patterns within the fractal, physical and mental fractal landscapes, entropy and chaos, alchemy, fragmentation, aesthetic of the landscape...
> The Wang Tiles is lovely, I would say my fav is the Voronoi diagram, everything connected to the Delaunay triangulation... Did you work on any practical technical project in particular for your thesis? > I feel it's time for a random Hatari link * Kermit loves to watch the capitalistic world burn from the ground while questioning gender stereotypes *
Coool! There's much to dive into. I skimmed through the paper by Brooks and Matelski, sweet < Thijs
to see Fatou-Julia pop-up concretely in the maths like that (but obviously the details of the
proof are lost on me).

There's a dedicated project page <
for Plothatching and Volume Plotting now, the latter includes text. I suspect not all ascii
characters are present in this hpgl font though. But that should not be too much of a problem.

Btw today I was talking with Riviera about maybe trying to manipulate the buffer live through <
Tidal Cycles. Plotting the music in a way that is more dynamic than just the volume (+ascii!?)

Btwbtw, I'm having a delicioud Ink-free Italian cookie during this Babble :) <

Thesis exchange when? [kermit goes crazy] <

Hatari's attitude here kinda reminds me of Fugazi. Are you familiar with them? Definitely <
worth checking out, both their music and history! (Also, a bonus Nardwuar interview)

There's much more to say, but I'm logging off for the day. Enjoy your evening :)) <

2024-01-13

The doormat carried a nice surprise for me this morning. Thank you :) < Thijs

I've started Homo Ludens again, with more structured annotations this time. I have a question <
continuing our conversation from Tuesday.

(WikiBabble --> BookBabble? (Should this become a new chatroom?)) <

Alessia > Glad to hear the italian post service is still working.
No more bdsm
music. I am listening to Repeater by Fugazi in this exact moment, I feel it could be my fav so far from them
> Math as a subject has never been my strong point, so calculus is not really one of my skills, but when applied to visual art it certainly fascinates me, so also geometry. If you need any help researching this topic you know I have a keen passion for finding artworks, exploring intersections of disciplines. I am trying to figure out if there is an automated way to create an ordered list of all the links we are sharing.
> It's lovely to hear you are making structured annotations, I feel the need to see them, because my own annotations from Homo Ludens are like a nightmarish stream of thougths so I think it's time to change a little bit my annotation style. This reminded me of one of the first conversations we had as xpub1, it was about our own ways of annotating. For this 2024 one of my goal is becoming as good as the bible journaling people. What about your style?

Lightning round of messages: < Thijs

Wow a wild PurpleBabble appeared! <

Fugazi's Repeater? Or Fugazi's 10.0.0.107 nyehe 😄😄 <

Yeahyeah please share your ancient knowledge! Last week we mentioned KG&LW right? Are you <
familiar with their bootlegger project? It started with Polygondwanaland which they rele-
ased under an open source license. Cool stuff.

Hm for my annotations, I'm trying out a different pdf reader this time. Normally I prefer <
paper if I want to go hard on annotations, and I'm now trying to explore digital ways that
work for me. What's your usual strategy?

2024-01-19

Alessia > yes, answer to the secret message, how cool that is. I am sure there could be other levels of communication,
         let me think a bit
> we could make treasure hunts around the wiki
> about my stategy it's all about being messy, I open hundred of digital notepad pages and then leave them floating nto my computer
Alessia > :))) I would say the wiki of xpub is a space, I don't really feel it as a place at all at the moment, while this wikibabble is a place!
> Thijs you want to make me cry, isn't it? ISN'T IT? Thank you very much for my birthday gift :)

2024-01-23

Hi Alessia. Sorry for the late reply. As I might have told you, I am experimenting with < Thijs
leaving my laptop at the studio these days. Very well hidden, mind you, wiki bandits.
Indeed, we must make a wiki treasure hunt to distract them from the loot in the studio.

Hmmm, seemingly seamful notetaking! <

Of course, WikiBabble is the place to be! <

Glad it made its way toward you :) <

Okay gotta prototype now! Talk to you soon! <

2024-03-04

Hey Alessia, long time no Babble. < Thijs

In fact, long time little wiki for me. This innocent idea of moving has thrown my wiki <
of balance. I think there have been days where I have wikied more than I have in the
last month combined :'( But I do think slowly but surely this jigsaw is falling into
place,, and you already now what that means: new Babbles ;)

How are you doing, wiki-wise? <

2024-03-05

Alessia > Hello Thijs, long time no see!
> I am happy to see you here again, babbling/wikiing, even though I tried with all my heart to surpass the number of your wiki edits while you were busy (sooner or later it will happen, may the best editor win eheh) > please feel free to write on the left part of the page, we must find a new layout to wikibabble, to be more user-friendly, always respecting the original vibe of course. Lovely radiohead reference!
         > Daily movie recommendation: Scrapper, the 2023 movie. I watched it today, really good, great structure and
combination of different aesthetic elements. It reminded me a little of YOUR IDOL, I won't say the name,
because he is not MY IDOL, but the softness of the colours chosen despite the theme explored is the same.
         > So I feel that that magical metaphysical book I found on the street has become a good lucky charm, since I
found it the days all feel good, could be the approaching of spring instead? How are you? Are you a spring
person? And do you feel your personal choice of socks could even unconsciously show the influence of the
succession of seasons, events, changes? (lovely theme to study, I believe. Socks philosophical and
           psychological interpretation)
         > Another fundamental question: what colour would you like your car? Victor chose vanta black/blue, I
voted for silver glitter car colour, just covered in glitters, and if you touch the car body the glitters
stick to your hands, everywhere, so the car will surely leaves a trail of glitters down, becoming then a
           fairy car.

Assessments are oveeeeer < Thijs

Happy to see that MY IDOL is omnipresent in your life, too. They are a great user of color, <
definitely something to inspire our own film endeavour. Speaking of color, my car would
be #DBE6F0, of course:

Is this Babble a laughing stock? Cuz it seems we need to Talk Talk again! Here's an inaugural < Thijs
post for The New Year. How does it feeeel Alessia?

2024-09-19

Alessia > damn did I just disappear from this chat? I hope the wikigod (Thijs) won't take it too personally
        > I AM INDEED BACK

2024-10-04

THE NEWS IS OUT -- SHE HAS RETURNED! < Thijs

Welcome back, welcome back. How has the start of your year been? I myself have done some fruitful reading. <
Dare I say some of my notes even approximate the image you shared earlier, which can only be a good sign.

Though I have to say, the wiki is a similarly entangled battlefield. So many new names, and the familiar ones <
have adopted new, irregular wikiing practises... But I'm trying my best to hold the fort! To await and cele-
brate of all who may find this place!

THIJS OUT! < Thijs
Alessia > Few minutes before midnight!
        > There's a great chill vibe in the recent changes page today ⋆。°•☁︎
        > Lovely to see your notes, this bring me back to the first xpub conversation we had about note taking. It was nice. I was really worried, one year ago, I am quite worried still, but if I look back, what an experience! Look at us now (we OWN this place)!

2024-10-05

The start of the year has been good, extremely chaotic and busy, but things are good (melatonin?!?!!) < Alessia
I should find a game that makes people sleep, for ‧₊˚research purposes‧₊˚, do you have any suggestion?

2024-10-09

Thijs > How the turns have tabled! How most fortunate to find myself on this side of the Babble! Also very
fortunate to hear your start has been great. I, too, have found it surprisingly busy. I hadn't anticipated
for this much, if I'm being honest with you. I had gotten the impression that being XPUB2 would mean just
casual wikiing, vibing around the no-longer-existent kitchen table... Not that I'm complaining, the busi-
ness I have been experiencing has been positively inspired, on average!

       > How are you approaching your ‧₊˚research purposes‧₊˚ and the start of your project? Making? Reading? Talk-
         ing? Playing? ???
