This workshop applies storytelling and empathy to writing a fictional letter (or email, text message, DM, comment thread). The goal is to gain new perspectives on your ambitions and the possible impact of your work on an audience. It could help you prepare for the upcoming final presentations of your projects. Also in light of your graduation it could help you to specify your ambitions with your project.

The workshop is most helpful, when applied to a specific work or project that you’re working on. Other than that, no formal prior knowledge is needed, the workshop takes you step by step. Bring along your preferred tools for writing: a laptop or pen and paper.

This workshop might be helpful when:

During my residency I explored the sound of silence. As a first-year Experimental Publishing student, I found herself on a deliberate search for silence in the heart of Rotterdam. In our increasingly noisy world, silence has become a rare phenomenon, and I questioned if we are still able to hear the disappearing sound of silence. Listening to silence, however, is not the absence of noise; nor the absence of speech; it demands a willingness to attune oneself to the ever-present non-human soundscape that surrounds us. Through my project, I aimed to make room for the sound of silence, by examining the space between the words or the rests in a piece of music which are immense and fertile.

LETTERS FROM THE FUTURE

LETTERS FROM THE FUTURE by Fay van der Wall This workshop applies storytelling and empathy to writing a fictional letter (or email, text message, DM, comment thread).

This workshop might be helpful when: – you want to explore your motivation as an artist/designer – you want to reflect on methods or formats of presenting your work

ROOM FOR SOUND RESIDENCY
