I love the fact that the act of mark-making and the materials themselves become the meaning, or hold up the meaning. How can one read the smudging or the blurring of a line into another line, or a color into another color? Or see the strength in a drawn line on the canvas or the underpainting coming through? All of these things become what that painting its meaning.
