LP project

The LP project is a collaborative “in-development” idea dealing with the rather abstract notion of lacking visual perception. We are being stuffed with visual information and the idea of this research is to try to ignore this and try to make the user/viewer “see” things without actual image. We made a 3 minute video, trailer-like, asking questions about the act of “seeing” in order to raise certain interest. All means used in the video are minimal...using nothing but a simple light source we create the needed environment and pose questions about basic notions such as lightness, darkness and the notion of nothing.

WHY---> because We were interested in visualizing the unseen. Something that is without particular form and color. we realized that blindnes is as diverse as the world we, sighted people know. So the video we made is just a brief interpretation af what we want to explore more further.

HOW--->We first started reading medical facts about blindness and then stumbled upon personal experience, described by blind people in forums or blogs. After a few nights of reading and gathering information, we took some extracts from different sources and took them as a starting point of our video. The 3 minute piece is stop motion animation, composite of about 2,500 still images, shot with a DSLR camera.

to what degree did the work succeed/how could it fail?--->The work succeeded to the degree of creating a visually pleasing short video that might raise some interest on the topic in certain individuals. It also determined us to start our research on the non-perceivable, the non-visual. This project could fail because the research is still very broad and needs to be deepened and more focus. The other issue is finding a good way to express the results of the research, which are not determined yet.

What is Internet?

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite to serve billions of users worldwide.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet ).

This is an “in-development” project that aims to collect information and definitions of what is internet from non-users. I started a database of videos, collecting definitions of what the internet is, according to those people. Results are honest, descriptive and tend to bring out simple physical features that could result in gradual materialization of the web.

WHY--->because Being online is a thing we are completely used to. All the time. Well, yes billions of us, but at the very same time, there are people that don't use internet, moreover they are not pretty sure what exactly that is. They have built their opinion based on what they heard from others or saw on tv, or just their imagination. And mostly because the answers are very amusing.

HOW--->Simply by asking what internet is and recording the answers on video. That was my initial experiment, because (while working on a music video set) I found myself in a highly poor and isolated gypsy neighborhood in a mountain village. Now i think of ways to develop the idea and make it possible to collect more answers from different ages, countries, social statuses and collect them in a somehow interactive database.

to what degree did the work succeed/how could it fail?--->It is very hard to determine to what extent this work succeeded, because it still is just an idea, supported with a little bit of visual accessories. The project could fail in many ways, mostly if i don't find a way to organise the gathered data in an interactive structure. A database that gives you not only information, but experience.
