Xylomatron is now capable of playing the Simon Says game with you. The challenge here was detecting the notes that the player has played. My first trial on building a sensor for that was a frequency counter. It was basically a op-amp connected to a ripple counter which would count the frequency of the sound received by a microphone. I have built a prototype on breadboard, and it worked. But it was failing on noisy environments and was unreliable. Here is the schematic: 2010-11-14 02.10.21.jpg

Than I decided to build a more robust sensor system, I have simply took off the paint on the bars with sandpaper and attached clips on them. Than I have connected them to a resistance setup in order to be able to measure all 8 contact points with only 2 analog inputs of the atmega chip. And the stick itself is charged with positive current, which is basically completing the circuit depending on which bar is being hit. It is quite hard to play, since the colors of the bars are gone. I plan to add number stickers at the edges of the bars. Here is the first video of the test software: {{#ev:vimeo|17094020|640}}

Now the only thing left is the body casing and the head of the robot.
