What? (two sentences)

This is a single example of several small nondisciplined tools I want to make in the coming months. A eurorack module that converts control voltage to Hewlett Packard Graphic Language, to allow the use of music synthesisers to make printed graphics.

Why? (two sentences)

An example of connecting distant aspects of my practice through a small sharp strange tool. Converting one medium to another (the convertor is ((in (((between))))) media). It would be practically useful, fun, interesting but is really an allegory for a deeper desire to decompartmentalise and be more flexible about intra- and inter- personal identity and connection. Yes I have skin but it is full of pores, it is surrounded by and surrounding hairs, it is completely empty.

Workflow (two or three sentences)

Design. Build. Oops. Tweak. Oops. Tweak. Ooh cool. Oops. Tweak. Fuck, shit. Tweak. Oops. Never mind.

Timetable (Sept 23-July 24)

1hr talk to people who know stuff like Joseph/manetta

2hr Learn about a2d conversion

2hr Learn about hpgl

4hr Is time a fundamental part of the universe or an emergent property?

2hr Design module mechanics

4hr build Prototype/s

4hr Test/experiment

I plan to iterate on this small process, and to document all the stages where possible. I plan to have a similar process for other connecting media, things that connect people and tools and far away planets.

Relation to previous practice (two sentences, draw on Text on Practice)

This tool is an attempt to connect seemingly distant aspects of my practice, creating printed matter and building modular synths. The relation to my practice is part of the point, I am trying to re-fine or de-find or re-dis-cover what I am and do. More generally I would like the work to dissolve and cross apparent boundaries between workflows and people.

Choices made (two sentences)

My volition is one of the many connections between the present and the future I desire. Making my own tools and undefining. Examine connections that look like they don't even exist, and see what they can become.

Rapid prototypes

I don't have much time to prototype this week unfortunately but would like to first set up a pen plotter get it drawing, and a CV input start reading data. Then I can get into more playful prototypes. Some software in between on a laptop, Arduino, teensy, esp32, Im not exactly sure.
