This year I would like to have clear idea what I will investigate further during the upcoming year.!!! "Be honest with yourself and with the others 80% of the work is already done."
Aymeric: concentrate on Erase traces what does that mean for you? In the context of the "Erase traces" if you can unfold this you will eventually find a way to reach to dense and heavy themes about public - private, surveillance, control-power, exercise of power, media, the role of media

  • go personal look at the notion of Exiles/ Home and Adorno's term about cosmopolitanism

French low YOU ARE ALLOWED TO FORGET!

note: Be more explicit!
What is the main subject of Erase// from where it comes that fascination?
Main direction: Erase traces( rather abstract, but poetic and open for numbers of interpretation)

Traces of Data

General notes
Data Entry: research on how to completely erase your data from the operating system.rmv command does not delete the file permanently" or non-restorative. I found indulging the fact that there is a command line "shred" ( available only on linux ), poorly used because of its damaging consequences. Shred erases all the information, by overwriting 20 times or so. There is no "shred" command in OS x instead there is a replacement or security remove command called srm. In comparison with Mac OS x, based on Unix system, a file could be overwritten only 3 times at the time. In relationship to that I find interesting approach of how to defeat the by information overflow or noising the channel, by overwriting something infinitive times instead of trying to denoise it:

Interesting observation and claim that the only way to defeat or perform a resistance against privacy/ violation of privacy and surveillance is actually to expose yourself and to feed the system with your own personal data. A reference of the artist intention is the interview of Matthew Fuller with Eva and Franco Matters from 01 collective Live_sharing project by 0101010101.org
Live sharing is dealing with voyeurism and peering into the lives of others or like a file sharing but live sharing or sharing everything with everybody. Indeed, the interactivity to browse to someone's else system is a performative act of voyeurism or pervasive game of watching reveals in the ability to see and navigate through every digital trace, fingerprint, and footprint of the artists as documented by their own computer.

system knowledge&understanding terms [connected with erase, erase data, erase traces]
'data erasure' term - or the only way to erase data permanently is physically to destroy a hard disk drive. In the past shredders were used to destroy confidential, secret papers now there are replaces by data shredders. This could lead to interesting investigation and violence of privacy by trying to access someone's data by restoring the data from the unknown device or enter to someone's hard drive. Questions about e-waste and digital recycling, digital trash ....data recycling. Except the physical implementation of data storage of digital trash camps outrageously sent to remote areas in Africa nevertheless there is the ethical issue or to what extend you have the right to intervene with someone's data!

Project_ draft:

For the project I will collect discarded hard drives and get the data out of them in order to examine abandoned data and leftover traces. By doing this I will what could I do with it?? and how I can feed it back into the system of trace? I will try to remix, recombine and sample these found leftover in poetic order by reconstructing or deconstructing what it remains to be lost.
This experiment is trigger by the idea of how the data trace is permanent, could not be not destroyed it has been capsulate within a time, code and the medium itself.
The general themes of digital waste, e-waste... data erasure – the physically destruction of data as the ultimate mode of complete erase. The is also an ethical question/ implementation (why?) collecting, preserving remixing waste data (and who has the right to ). Why to be ethical, while the question of ethics blurring the bounder of re-appropriations, remixes and meshes ? In this sence I am not looking for treasure but instead looking for rubbish which can serve as a raw material for further investigation.

eventually favicons' project, where favicons icons were collected from browser history and assigned to a letter or keyPress in order to create an alphabet or writing system using favicons// together with Roel.

how to exchange/ share favicons ?

  • build a small app for processing - self -surveillance tool which takes screenshot of me every hour.
    • to add screenshot of my desktop

  • building a small prototype of Urban_poem about traces/ Exploring collaborative writing/ online-offline media

a brief description follows:
Urban_poetry on traces is a text - poetry alike html page and printed stickers. The text is constructed and inspired by "The faceless project voiceOver". I extracted ten sentences where the word trace/ traces is repeated. Thus I recombined them in a text and images, which serves as a visual poem. The language of the whole text assembles a play, with a loose narrative. The dominance of the abstract rather philosophical interpretation of 'traces of data', 'New Machine', 'Current time' and 'Perfect present' draw metaphor of dense theme about surveillance.
I designed stickers and web page where I placed the text and the visuals. I will place the stickers in various of places around the city, guiding you to the url of the page with the following line saying: "city_poetry: reveal the full txt on http://mlakova.info:[1]"
possible ways to go:

  • I will find other texts/ poetry on traces_/ data_traces and by remixing, recombining I will extend my dictionary.
  • I would like to expand the project and to enable users to write/ edit and remix the text source.

Feedback from A.5/11/13
The city is over polluted, full of instant noise ()so is the internet - the overflow of urls.
You have to find a way - or a blank canvas in the city, where your intervention could be seen and remain visible. The web page might limit the idea of poetry or instant massages.
The challenge would be to find a place - a virgin territory, where your intervention can take place. How do you claim back the space/ the street?
ref:Graffity street internet interface focus on finding a space
Think about traces in more general term ( online - offline ) and combine the technological level with the urban sence of traces.
general advice: Keep the thesis as closer as possible to the final project!
