TO.REMEMBER. Text from Pzwart wiki: 'Uncreative Writing: Managing Language in the Digital Age' Kenneth Goldsmith started his book altering Douglas Humbler's quote “The world is full of objects, more or less interesting; I do not wish to add any more” by changing objects to texts. [Goldsmith] establishes the term of uncreative writing, underlying that nowadays texts differs from each other in their ‘technical’ aspects, the way author ‘conceptualised and executed his writing machine’ to rephrase and reorganise other’s words. [...]. In his book Goldsmith cites as an example a poem that consists from shopping mall store list rewritten in poetic form or the work that put together status updates in social networks with names of deceased writers, or Flarf, the new movement in writing that accumulates the worst of Google search result. So, in fact the text I wrote so far is a shortened and rephrased version of Kennet Goldsmith text, borrowed from others he mentions in his book. Nevertheless the new gender has its charm and evokes emotions and connotations as the reaction on writing process itself. Further development of technology became a catalyst for a new era of literature and art in complex. Contemporary artworks put to the end traditional understanding of originality and replication and brought new conception of creativity. During his classes of “Uncreative Writing” in the University of Pensylvania Goldsmith penalised students who tried to be creative and original. “Instead, they are rewarded for plagiarism, identity theft, repurposing papers, patch-writing, sampling, plundering, and stealing. Not surprisingly, they thrive. Suddenly, what they’ve surreptitiously become expert at is brought out into the open and explored in a safe environment, reframed in terms of responsibility instead of recklessness.” He found creativity not in their texts but in the way they choose what and how to reframe, proving that “the suppression of self-expression is impossible”. So the concept of ‘creativity’ haven’t become obsolete, but transformed in compliance of new realities. In other words, creativity goes not with the object but with method, the way the object was created. In era of Internet and computers “even if literature is reducible to mere code—an intriguing idea—the smartest minds behind them will be considered our greatest authors.” [Anon] [note- Goldsmith also wrote Wasting Time on the Internet] Small text

TO.DO What are you making?

Why are you making it?

How does it relate to other things you have done?

How is it different to other things you have done?

What are the most significant choices have you made recently?

What are you making? I'm making a short movie. It’s called ;The speed of fashion. Within the movie there are two characters having a playful dialogue. They are located in a somewhat outer space looking room. The two characters also look like they could have been taken out of a science fiction movie, So they look like futuristic human beings. There discussing the differences between slow and fast fashion. In their dialogue, the two characters within the movie are very conscious of the life audience that are watching the video. They break the 4th Wall by talking directly towards the audience by asking them questions. For instance, they ask the audience about their relationship with their clothing. Like“do you know where your clothes come from? And Will you keep them for a long time or will you throw them away any other day?” The answers the two characters long for is how fast is fast fashion? and how slow is slow fashion and how do we perceive the differences? They both know they won't get any answers to those questions but what they're trying to do by asking is playfully activating awareness of the audience. Why are you making it? There is his company called Fashionclash which is a fashion company, but I can assume you are already noticed by the name. They have an event every year and they approached me. to create a piece for it. Of course, that's a very practical answer to why I made it. To talk more about the content, I would say I'm making this movie because I find it a nice challenge to playfully activate an audience to think about their responsibility towards our way of living. What I'm trying to say is that the idea of who we are as an individual has an impact on who we are as a global being; My individual identity that I present by the way I dress and how much I consume clothing has an impact on the fashion industry so in that sense it has impact on others. I’m trying to raise the questions; how are we without our clothes? How strongly do clothes Influence the idea of who we are? And how strong do we rely on those stories? Are we aware of who made our clothes? And are those people in good circumstances. Maybe we should take it a bit slower and consume a bit less. Therefore, we can invest in more quality, not only in clothing quality but also in working quality. Maybe we can take more responsibility on changing the fashion industry from fast to slow. And by doing so, we could even help the world, WOOWW hahah quite idealistic haha. Maybe all this sounds very big but I'm not trying to give answers or telling the audience what to do. I'm trying to raise questions. To start thinking and talking. How does it relate to other things you have done? How does it relate to other things I have done? Well, it takes place in one moment. It's not a story that jumps into different times, it's within this moment that these two characters are talking to the audience and to each other will only stay within this moment. We won't go to the near future. So in that case it's kind of a dialogue which you could also see on a theatre stage. And I made other pieces where the characters were charring a kind of stream of consciousness, I believe that this is also going to be the case within this movie. Next to that, the movie is talking about the search of who we are through the clothes we wear. It connects to other works I made where I'm also questioning what we do in order to connect with one another and therefore ourselves. How is it different to other things you have done? I'm working together with the designer. Which is difficult sometimes, because I often do my own styling and I think this is a very essential part to creating a world. So it's new research on how to collaborate and how to communicate towards my companion. Also, it's very clearly talking about fashion. I'm not necessarily making other works talking about fashion. What are the most significant choices have you made recently? Well, because of Corona, the exposition will not be live, so the movie is going to be the only element shown online. Before the new corona restrictions, the designer whom I'm working with was going to create a space where the movie would be played. Now that is gone that means that I’m going to change the script.
