microliteracy or digital literacy: the consequences of visual communication the age of microblogging and the ipad
in the age of the amazon kindle and the inevitable media hype surrounding the ipad, is it important to address the notion of digital literacy and investigate its parameters within the context of media rich evironments? web 2.0 has been reduced from our extensive use blog posts (via blogspot, wordpress et. al) to what is being regarding as microblogging (via twitter, facebook, tumblr et. al.) in a short span of five years; has microblogging affected our way to communicate essential ideas or have we been persuaded (manipulated?) to utilize media rich communication systems to act as the medium for what it means to be literate? i will explore arguments, for and against, ereaders, microblogging and even internet operating systems (such as the new google chrome os) to establish how they affect our literary potential and shape how we communicate within a media savvy/visually rich culture.
