Project proposal:
The main question I will be dealing with in the essay for this thematic project is whether the e-reader is a remake of the medium of the book. A remake in cinema works in the direction of both adaptation and remaking, reinterpreting, redoing the subject. The point I will start with is the idea that a classical (in the sense of typical) e-book isn’t a reinterpretation or adaptation to a means of digital in the sense digital writing is. The content of the book is not the one being remade, but the medium itself. An e-book reader is a form that emphasizes and reinforces the notion of the book as a medium, the fetish of an object, distancing it from the multifunctional trend, which is embedded in our surrounding. It focuses the reader to what he’s reading. The remake evokes nostalgia. Or does nostalgia evoke remakes?
