Methods used within the Special issue

Before conducting interviews, it was necessary to develop a methodology.

Working with interviews in a new manner - combining them into a narrative - was very inspiring to me. I am extremely pleased with how we managed to combine all the different voices into a narrative that is coherent and flows more or less naturally. I would have liked to have more room to go more in-depth with the themes that arose.

Writing exercises

Wrote two short descriptions of two different projects that I have worked on prior to enrolling in XPUB. One version incorporates changes made after receiving feedback from readers (including Steve). I learned to organize my writing in paragraphs based on different questions. The most meaningful experiment for me was to try to describe something for what it is, creating a clear visual image out of words.

Research

The experiment above reminded me of the concept of imagism, a movement most prominent in poetry, where writers focus on precise descriptions in clear, sharp language.

This class has led me to think more about writing theory, and to try to implement elements into my writing practice. My goal is to develop my writing in a way that is clear and concise, and not one that reverts to artspeak to alienate readers.

Recently, I also became interested in the practice of writing manifestos.
