Bio In her works Ana Brumat (1991, Slovenia) creates a fascinating and richly textured imaginative world that draws the viewer into metaphysical environments that are uniquely informed by emblematic complex systems and organisms. The artistic investigation is based on the discovery of new possibilities and relations between artificial life and natural systems and it leads to an expansion of our understanding of complex macrocosmic structures. These analogies allow to take the artwork out of an exclusively fictional work and place it in another discursive space. The application of the homeostatic practices to artificial cybernetic systems makes it able to adapt inside a natural habitat and it draws new perspectives of progressive alienated forms inside complex possible future life structures.

The Transience is an audio-visual installation, which symbolises a ‘newborn’ synthetic form of life. The conscious organism explores its functions and floats inside the isolated glass container. What is it like to be awakened in a fragile synthetic body? Outside his container preserved bodies of natural species can be found. How does it feel to observe life beyond the barrier of a sterile chamber? Lifeless examples of natural evolution are testifying the frangibility of life. The synthetic organism shivers inside the container, questioning the time remaining before his body collapses.
