Res Seminar

From XPUB & Lens-Based wiki

The seminar with Res was very inspiring, and I loved every step of it.

She works most in photography and is a New York/Stockholm-based artist. Her work (in my eyes) is very contemporary and critical. Her personality and points of view shine through her work, and that makes it even stronger.

For her thematic seminar, we had to make a portrait of another student.

By picking a name out of a head, we were randomly picked. My partner for this assignment was Aitana.

The portrait was very open, and it could be anything visual.

So, the first thing that me and Aitana did was having a conversation about ourselves and our practices.

We went for a walk in Nesselande and set down for a refreshing beer on the 9th of October. We recorded our conversation, just in case it would be useful for the portrait. And in this conversation we discovered what we wanted to do for the portrait, and even beyond the portrait, as a collaboration.

We want to work from out of the world of medical imaging and discover more of the unexplored parts of our bodies.....the inside.

As it is an alienizing and unattractive point of view, for us, it is so much more than that.

The week that followed showed that our curiosity, motivation and interest in this topic led to the decision to make this idea into the EYE-film project.

My portrait with Aitana.

Me and Aitana started to work on a collaborative video in the field of medical imaging and with the focus on the abject.

We want to do more research on this and develop our own points of view.

The image on the right side of the page is a still from the video.

The process of making was wonderful.

Aitana is a good a loyal partner to work with.

We had some obstacles with the editing of the video.

We wanted to share a project so that we could both work in it.

Sadly that did not work out and we did not understand how to fix it.

Because of that, Aitana dit the video editing and I did the audio editing.

We loved the result of the video!

My portrait of Aitana.

Next to our collaborative project, I also had time to work on a personal piece about Aitana.

In this work, I still wanted to show Aitana and her voice as an artist.

I used photography as a medium and created photo collages through Adobe Photoshop.

This was all very new to me, and I really liked the process of it.

These are two poems that I wrote about AItana:

Poem 1

Repeat after me.

Beauty is an illusion of time.

Made by men.

Worn by woman.

It’s daily labor.

Breaking child and daughter.

Repeat after me.

Poem 2

Let´s lose our shoes.

On our bare feet.

Enter the water sleeveless.

As bare as any other sea creature.

We find ourselves splashing around.

As if we our our children.

No one knows.

They can know the fun.
