Session one: what, how and why

What is it?
My practice is shooting human gestures using the nude photography medium. which doesn't have a name yet. I play with the different forms of body and shapes and i photograph them in a sensual way for my audiences. it is based on my own body but as i started making friends in school and more on, in the society, i realized human body in general, in every form and format is beautiful. And it’s not just my own body that i’m interested in its form. That is why i gradually started to work with other models. I cover up the provocative parts of the body. This is satisfying for me. Human body is very complicated. it can be formed in so many ways and i think that is the most interesting thing about it. Capturing myself naked was always a normal thing to me and shooting others became normal to me too.
Why?
I am fascinated with how much you can express with body language and that is the same in nude photography for me. The abilities of my body give me the opportunity to express whatever i’m feeling in shapes and forms. I started this to firstly, stimulate my audience’s curiosity. Secondly, to try to tell a little bit of my story, which was hiding for so many years, in my photos. Capturing a very raw material without distractions, in a very clever way that forces audience to put effort on understanding it, is satisfying for me. i always felt that i was unnormal and nobody can understand me. Expressing myself through the gestures of body made me this way of communication with others.
How?
I mask the provocative parts of the human body to firstly, prevent making any sexual desire. secondly , as mentioned before, to stimulate the curiosity. I believe curiosity is a very strong feeling that makes everybody to put effort in everything. I wanted my audiences to spend the effort to understand my pictures as well as others tried to understand me. At the same time i wanted my pictures to look beautiful. Hiding the provocative parts helped me to cross out the sexuality and make sensuality instead. I try to raise other feelings with grabbing parts of the body or using other materials such as water. I use facial expression, gaze in particular, to communicate more with my audiences and complete the journey of feelings for my audiences. The result, is giving the chance of feeling so many feeling at the end to them and give them the chance to have their own opinion on the pictures.

My practice is shooting nude self-portraits and nude photography of others on digital. It’s mostly in black and white, but i do color depending on what i want to express at the moment. The sexual parts of the body are hidden in the pictures, and the light is always natural light. I often use other elements that describe my personality; for example, i used my black huddy in the project's main picture to hint to the viewers that it’s me in the picture but also to hide my face. It describes the feelings and expressions that have been hidden for so long in the young woman’s life (me), and it tries to stimulate the curiosity in the audience. It is/has been a long-life project, so it doesn’t have a certain edition, and it is getting bigger every day. It started in my bedroom back when i was in my country and expanded to an actual project. It focuses on human gestures’ expression of feelings in different forms and shapes. The environment of the pictures is always my own safe place, whether it is my bedroom or my house, because i feel my true self in those places.

Meanwhile, i wanted my pictures to look beautiful. I couldn’t understand how other artists found that hard line between being sexual and being sensual, and that was where my search around it began. Eventually, i learned how to do it in my pictures and make beautiful photos.

I try to raise other feelings by grabbing body parts or using other materials such as water. To test the medium of the body to the maximum of its capacity. Using natural light was forced on me because of my limitations, but i realized it makes a familiar environment for the voyeurs, so i continued using it. Then i complete the journey of feelings for my audiences with facial expressions, gaze in particular, to communicate more with them. Which i believe is a very strong tool. The result gives the chance to have so many feelings and have their own opinion on the pictures to the vouyers.

Hello are you working yeah it's working OK let's go OK so what are you making Sarah OK um I'm you should check this I'm making a short film about and my main approach is for non Iranians to take action about what is going on in wrong because I personally believe that everyone in the ward guys having a normal life it is because of feminism movement and women's rights women rights rights movement so every person that believes lives in feminism or women's rights should do something about it because as long as these things are happening in anywhere in the world it doesn't matter if it's evil or another country ice ask the modern civil civilized civilization can say that they believe in someone is there more women's right movement moves men movement or something so this short film I'm not sure that how long it's gonna be but it's gonna show a very normal life of of a person who lives in Rotterdam and um it's gonna remind them of dates and time and at the end it's going to tell them that in that date in that time you were just like getting your coffee and you were getting your coffee because of the feminism movement and everything you you have all this freedom to speak or do whatever because of that and you didn't know that like 3% or 5% were killed at the same time that you were having your coffee because of the movement so the whole idea is this and yeah I would like to ask you like more questions but no I mean more about it no after this but yeah so the next question is why are we making why I'm making this because as I said I think ice in the western world they have so much greed and we have freedom of the speech we have freedom of thinking whatever we want to think about and we have so many privileges that we don't know and I think we all forgot that we can actually use them so it doesn't matter if you're a woman or if you're a man if you believe um what do you call it even between men and equally if you believe me um you're a feminist if you believe that you may have women should have the right to wear whatever they want better they want um then you believe in feminism feminism movement I remember his movement so I'm making this to remind people that you can actually use this freedom of speech these this freedom of thinking or anything so I personally not really but I I personally think that nobody expects you to get to care but if you care and if you do action on it then you can say that I'm a feminist feminist or I believe that everyone should have should be acquainted so that's why I'm thinking it and how does it relate to water things you have done OK it relates to there's things I've done in a way that I was working on my project because I had limitations and I had restrictions so I didn't have a very basic wife too Warwick on something that I was passionate about that was no photography and I was doing it in secret and hiding and everything and I actually came here to air and arrived to work on that so now by speaking about what is going on in your life buy in white others take action on it I'm helping the women in Iran or anywhere in the world that has this kind of problems to earn the basic rights to work on their passion without me without going to another country without forcing yourself to migrate to another country to have the freedom to work on something that they're passionate passionate about so it relates to my first first project that was new photography in this way so everyone would have the very basic right to work on whatever they want to work and don't put their lives at risk so that is how it relates and how is it different to other things get done it's very different because it it kinda has that Um activities kind of live in a vibe but I don't want to be an activist I don't wanna be a stem inist or anything I just wanna be a human and I think that that is the main difference between this project between between this project and my other projects because I'm closing off all the names and I'm trying to say that be human because before I was working on I I was working on something that you could call it feminism or something but now
I'm inviting others to others that think themselves as a Prime Minister or minister or supporter to be actually human being and um take action on very these bad things that are happening because here we're not talking about people that are getting killed in like sumalee or something because they're they're dying because of a very different reasons but people that are dying in the streets in Iran or anywhere in the Middle East they are dying because of a very important action that we've asserted ward habit and we deal with it every day we yeah yeah that's how it is the last one what are the most significant choices you've made recently the most significant choices I made was one of them was to stop working on self parking because that was really hard to accept the fact that that doesn't make me satisfied and I want to do something bigger in a way not that that wasn't big enough but I saw something bigger in myself that I can't do more of just take pictures of myself so that that that is one of the most significant things that I did and another significant thing I did recently is to keep going on to work on this project because it's so hard for me and it's so frustrating for me to work on it and I and I get like the feeling that I don't wanna do it every day and every day I wake up and I'm like push a little more push a little more and work on this project specific project because I really want this to have a message.

I personally believe, everyone in the world is able to have a normal life because of the feminism movement and women’s rights movement. Every person that believes in feminism or women's rights should do something about it. I'm not sure how long it's gonna be. It's gonna display dates and times in a very normal life of a Rotterdam inhabitant. It’s gonna remind them that they have this freedom of a normal life because of the feminism movement. in the end, the audience is gonna see how many people died in Iran because of this movement at the same time the inhabitant was just having, for example, their coffee. I think we, in the western world, forgot to use our privileges. If you believe that men and women are equal, if you believe that women can have all the rights to do whatever they want, then you believe in feminism. I'm making this film to remind people that they can actually use this freedom of speech. I personally think that nobody expects you to care but if you care and if you take action on it, then you can say that you’re a feminist or you believe that everyone should be equal. I started my nude photography project because of the limitations and restrictions I had. Because of the very basic rights, I didn’t have, which is working on what I’m passionate about without putting my life at risk. I came here to be able to do it freely, not in hiding and in secret. so now by speaking about what is going on in Iran and inviting others to take action on it, I'm helping the women in Iran or anywhere in the world that has the same problems, to earn the basic rights to work on their passion. my first project was so personal but in this project, I’m inviting others to take action on something they deal with every day without knowing. There are people dying in the streets of Iran every day to earn these basic rights. I accepted the fact that taking self portraits does not satisfy me anymore and I saw this ability in me to do much more. In my opinion, spreading this message is so important that as much as it’s hard and frustrating for me, I wake up every day and push a little more.

I believe everyone in the world can have a normal life because of feminism and the women’s rights movement. Every person that believes in feminism or women's rights should do something about it. I'm not sure how long it's gonna be. It's gonna display dates and times in a very normal life of a Rotterdam inhabitant. For instance, seeing a flyer of their favorite concert on a specific day or the time their train leaves for work. Everything that would remind a Rotterdamer of their life and is familiar to them. It’s gonna remind them that they have this freedom of a normal life because of the feminism movement.
In the end, through a text of those times and dates, the audience is gonna see how many people died in Iran because of this movement. at the same time, the inhabitant was just having, for example, their coffee. In the western world, I think we forget to use our privileges. If you believe that men and women are equal and that women can have all the right to do whatever they want, then you believe in feminism. I'm making this film to remind people that they can actually use this freedom of speech. I think that nobody expects you to care, but if you care and take action on it, you can say that you’re a feminist or believe that everyone should be equal.
I started capturing myself, using nude photography, in my early years and nobody, still, knows about it. I migrated to another country to have the basic right to work on what I’m passionate about, without risking my life. I started my self-portraits nude photography project as a way to break free from the limitations and restrictions I shouldn’t have had. So now, by speaking about what is going on in Iran and inviting others to take action on it, I'm helping the women in Iran or anywhere in the world that has the same problems, to earn the basic rights to work on their passion. My first project was so personal, but in this project, I’m inviting others to take action on something they deal with every day without knowing. There are people dying in the streets of Iran every day to earn these basic rights. I accepted the fact that taking self-portraits does not satisfy me anymore, and I saw this ability in me to do much more. In my opinion, spreading this message is so important that as much as it’s hard and frustrating for me, I wake up every day and push a little more.
