I started reading feminist literature because it gives me a sense of understanding what it means to be living in a patriarchy. I’m interested in understanding these structures and be part of calling out oppressive systems and help dismantling them. Up until now I haven’t really connected my reading to my artistic practice. I feel like my work itself shouldn’t per se be about feminism. I like my work to be subtle and hope that a feministic undertone will be something that seeps through my work naturally.

I’m interested in story telling, textually but also visually. Especially the combination of both is something I would like to dive into more. I like writing small personal stories, they enable me to try and find my own voice.

I’ve always been attracted to personal stories that at the same time are universal. I want to be able to tell a story that feels familiar and touches people. What makes a story too personal and what then makes it universal? This is something I continue to be fascinated about and try to make conscious decisions in.

“Your Silence Will not Protect You” by Audre Lorde is a collection of essays and poems. For this semester I would like to produce something similarly. I would like to find my own voice by trying out different forms of creative writing (essay, poem, journal, memoir, letter, script, speech) Eventually binding them together and or maybe see to what extent I can bring in a visual aspect as well.
