The color of the year
Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute declares a particular color "Color of the Year".
Pantone gets a lot of publicity from its annual “Color of the Year” announcement, a practice they began in 2000. The fanfare includes shots of products, such as clothes or furniture, in the highlighted hue.
It becomes more influential each year. Color forecasters, manufacturers and fashion buyers put stock in the selection. Now, Pantone itself has partnered with several retailers to ensure that its announcement will be an even bigger marketing juggernaut: Sephora on makeup, JC Penney on a bed-and-bath collection, Lowes on paints, and Room Copenhagen with accessories that look like Pantone color samples.
- As individuals around the world become more fascinated with color and realize its ability to convey deep messages and meanings, designers and brands should feel empowered to use color to inspire and influence. The Color of the Year is one moment in time that provides strategic direction for the world of trend and design, reflecting the Pantone Color Institute’s year-round work doing the same for designers and brands. source from Pantone
