If you'd like to run a GNU/Linux distribution, either as single or double boot on your machine, this party is for you!
A couple of things you should prepare before the party:
- prepare for the worst :) expect unpredictable amounts of fun and
frustration
- make full backup of your HD. In case something goes terribly wrong (at
times it does) and your HD ends up being wiped out. Do backup!
- bring the installation CD/USB/DVD of your original operating system
(Mac OS X or Windows)
- Make space in your HD. Your machine's HD can't be full, you need to
make free-space before partition the HD (if you want to run 2 systems in your machine - double boot). How much is really a matter of usage and taste. To be on the safe size and have some buffer for personal media files, 20GB should be the minimum.
For those who are already running a GNU/Linux on your machines, feel
invited. Your knowledge and experience will be very much needed.
And if you are curious about GNU/Linux, but not sure if you can/want to
have it running on you machine, feel welcomed to join.
Question: If we end up with some extra minutes during the party, could we spend some time speaking about the software toolset around PZI (for first years essentially I guess?) The archive machine, etherpads, virtualservers, git server (?), all this set of things? (Asked by Colm)
