Free as in Cheese S01E01 Seminar: 16:00- 18:30

re re re,

Starting the coming Tuesday, 9th of October, I will be running monthly seminars on the topic of free culture and its debunking. This is directly linked to my PhD at Goldmisths and hopefully will give you some insight on the issues of remix, participation, collaboration and exploitation in both closed and open systems.

I want to give a particular attention to breaking some myths and common misunderstanding around free and open source inspired efforts and how the latter interface with proprietary agendas for the best or the worse. Along the way I hope I will give you enough material so that you can actually understand and use the lingo of free culture correctly, and as a consequence be able to decrypt the many narratives around the topic of openness regardless their context, let it be software, design, content, knowledge, data, web or whatever new open fad to come up next.

To start with, we will be watching a documentary starring people with beards, strange clothings and interesting haircuts, explaining the birth of free software and the open source initiative. We will also discuss a bit about it before and after.

Tuesday 9th of October: 16:00 - 18:30 Bring drinks and food if you like Both first and second years welcome
