10 MURDERS OF JOSEPHINE BY RANA HAMADEH play This piece of curated art is set up as a theatrical piece in the museum space, a performance without the performers. Following the same structure of a classical libretto , and according to the sounds of it - of the Opera piece, it begins with a Prelude, which is followed by a First Movement/ swing/ Second movement / swing/ and the final - Third movement.

Upon entering the museum floor, one can choose to be guided by the red light buble signaling where the action is currently taking place. You can choose your Movement- as all the players are merely ghosts communicating with us via meta - translation machines/instruments ; a self operating organ that is silently turning its wheel of perforated notes reading us silently the lost stories of dead and massacred that are floating somewhere under those flat lines of the legal system that justified their deaths.

An audio of a distorted opera in the setting of the theatre -turned -court -room –turned theatre, each set of velvety chairs is facing a solid wall.

Swings are positioned as a sort of the intermezzo moment between the acts, for the public to cool down and digest the confronted material ….

AMONG OTHER THINGS, I’VE TAKEN UP SMOKING TENT

All the works that are selected for this exhibition are gathered under mutual themes of Gender and Sexuality, and the complexities dealing with Indentity issues within these terms.

It is showing works of mainly young authors in a wide range of form ;performance art, illustration, photography, installation, video art.

The piece dominating the organic opening of the show is Rory Pilgrim’s The Rainbow. The author is juxtaposing two pieces of installation that could but also needn’t be considered as one piece. Maybe it is two pieces of work abolishing each other, and maybe it’s a proposition to look deeper into one own’ layers of identity issues within one’s sexuality.

One part of the installation is using a deconstructed rainbow colored rug as a centerpiece, surrounded by a safe space of 4 guardians - 4 television boxes loaded with video art accompanied with music. An individual should feel secured in this safe zone of understanding. It’s a room within a room, a little womb with the telly angels around it. The videos show scenes of happy people dancing to the music , obviously in a soothing surrounding, a surrounding that is understanding the pain outside the safe zone and wants to alleviate it by juxtaposing relaxing nature scenes with the mentioned happy people dancing ones.

Across the room though, is a wall covered with multiple sad faces of a Kenyan girl, with traces of the rainbow sign half smudged on her forhead.

The rainbow symbol, a proud flag of the LGTB community is comprised of 8 rainbow colors, each color representing a specific meaning. Sex, Life, Healing, Sunlight, Nature, Magic/Art, Serenity, Spirit.

Not being able to convey the message of the open society due to her origin, it is seen as a smudge, sadly dripping from her forehead.
