Description

Prototyping this trimester for me was mostly learning about electronics at mister Stock's workshops. I never before tinkered electronics and had to start very basic, but it was all great fun. I found it very enjoyable to get hands on some work in the material world, take some things apart, build other things. Of course learn to write some code as well. After getting to understand what is possible to do with arduino in combination with motors, leds, sensors, me and initially Nan decided to work on prototyping a machine that creates sound trough light. The intention was to create a projection that creates its own sound, trough an array of light dependant resistors. We wanted to use the base of a slide projector, which we disassembled, to make a film loop with its own generative sound. We went trough different ideas, struggle with hardware and code and couldn't finnish the device as we planned. We got the sensors working in a panel together, creating sound accordingly to the quantity of light hitting them. After the workshop we used a hacked TV MIchaela worked on, and combined it with the light to sound idea. The tv works as a oscillator and needs audio input to create different visuals. Mounting the sensors on the tv screen, that is how we came up with a feedback loop device that receives light from the tv and inputs the sound back into the tv to create different image and continue the loop. The Monologue machine prototype.
