Location of this story draws from the symbolism of the cloud (a data hotel) and a mash of data center NorthC and Smartdc (housed in the Van Nelle Factory)
Van Nelle Factory
"Jacobus Johannes van der Leeuw bouwde het bedrijf tussen 1837 en 1881 uit. Hij legde wereldwijde handelscontacten, stichtte eigen plantages in Nederlands-Indië en bouwde de winkel uit tot een fabriek voor het branden van koffie en het verwerken van tabak en thee. Rond de eeuwwisseling werden koffie en thee steeds belangrijker. Het ging Van Nelle dan ook voor de wind. Het bedrijf onderscheidde zich door een geheel eigen aanpak, met aansprekende reclamefiguren als Piggelmee." [1]
Majority of the sources about this factory talk about the way in which the building, the factory itself - being on the UNESCO list - is a symbol of modernity. The factory during the 20s was moved out of the city of Rotterdam to a cheap stretch of land where it could increase in size. The building comes to overshadow the discourse on where the factories produce (tea, tobacco and coffee) originated from.
