Out line thesis: Lucian Wester

Introduction: The thesis is going to be a text build from different kind of writings; on the one hand I have been writing a kind of diary through which I could write my ideas about issues surrounding my work, these can take form in ponderings and little stories of situations that I come across. The other texts will be more theoretical and historical based in art theory and history; these texts will be more like an essay. One of the chapters that I am now working on is a theoretical/historical overview about abstract painting: its emergence, blossom, and present state. A second chapter is probably going to be about photography, my main medium and subject.

Relation to practise: The combination of more poetic/dairy text pieces combined with more analytical essay text is an element that is also present in my work. Of course the text is based upon questions that directly come from my work/research into the medium of photography.

Practical steps: Now: - Ponderings/dairy fragments: from august 4 to now. (±5000 words) - First chapter build from annotations (art in theory 1900-1990) sketches (±3000 words) - annotation Kant after Duchamp first Chapter (±1500 words) - annotation James Turell interview (±500 words)

still to do: - Ponderings/dairy fragments - annotation Kant after Duchamp second Chapter - annotation Voyage On The North Sea - annotation The Originality of the Avant-Garde and Other Modernist Myths - Rosalind E. Krauss

Bibliography: Kant after Duchamp - Thierry de Duve The Originality of the Avant-Garde and Other Modernist Myths - Rosalind E. Krauss Voyage On The North Sea - RosalindKrauss Art in theory 1900 – 1990 (Formalism – American Avant-Garde) More?!
