My artistic practice is focused on this project at the moment largely in part to my own relationship with the place I currently find myself in. I am a Dutch born 'burger' (with cheese, please) who has only lived in the country for a few recent years. I am fascinated by what it means to 'be' a nationality, beyond the objective boxes to tick on government forms. In my immediate surroundings of home, school & work I found a gorgeous mosaic of 'locals' - regardless 'nationality'. Furthermore, I am interested exploring the line between documentary and fiction. I aim to find, capture and convey the manners in which humans choose to express themselves whether that’s through fashion or just threw the way they carry themselves in a public setting and how they perform their selves in the so-called theatre of every day life not necessarily song or dance but when they leave the house every day and they they enter this sort of chaotic yet shared space of of all these humans in an urban setting I think it’s really fascinates me so I’d be getting this research through photographing these people in and I am now trying to expand through video portraits that issued maybe at a higher frame rate with a slow push it in or something like that to….

How does it relate to the other things you have done good question so this definitely relates to the other things I’ve done it’s really just an extension of it but I hope to pursue it may be in the in a fashion that is outside the traditional framework of Filmmaking I have in the past made a feature film in a mid length film that dealt with similar artistic kind of research themes and interacting with strangers and capturing urban environments in a cinematic way and allowing the city and the people there to kind of lead the story the so-called story because it’s yet again in this blurred area between documentary and fiction so this is an extension of that and I hope for it to be for it to be more of a inquisitive approach so that I’m really trying to pull more from what is there the people the images I make rather than letting them just stand alone and moving away from them and maybe to develop it in a way that could be viewed and more of not maybe interactive or gallery type of setting outside of a traditional film that is this many minutes where there’s really passive kind of relationship with the audience OK what do you mean by category so the truth also I would like to rather than there being one finished product screened in a cinema setting for example I’d like the idea of playing with different types of frame sizes different ways of projecting and showcasing all these images juxtaposing them in certain ways and presenting them in a more active or interactive manner. This is different from other things that I’ve done because I really want to come from a like well thought out place an approach with what I’m doing well I think there’s always going to be a sort of element of spontaneity when I go into a place and I get only what is there and what happens to cross pads with me is what leads me in a certain direction yet I think especially on the back end of creating these things and thinking things through more to a point where I can start to draw connections between certain things like I said through this juxtaposition of maybe different types of images not just the portraits to make more of a statement about statement about what is happening before me and what is happening at large on a macro scale in the past I think it was very simple approach where it was as long as I have an image some thing that is all I need an I’ll just layer those with a bunch of others and put it together and I think it really lacked a voice yes
This is very much an extension of previous work I have done. I have in the past made a feature film in a mid length film that dealt with similar themes and motives, where 'strangers' and capturing 'the streets' in a cinematic way were the focus. Allowing the city and its people to lead a story. With a new approach now, I hope for a more inquisitive approach makes deeper connections to the subject matter, rather than letting images stand alone.

The most significant choices I’ve made recently were to enrol into the Pete’s farts institutes Lynn’s based media program and to make nice friends like the one sitting in front of me oh my God it’s translating Pete’s word to Pete’s farts farts but you had to take this more kind of analytical approach and incorporate that into the creative work that I like to do but also to step outside of this more when I considered a bit of a technical background in role that I come from as a cinematographer and to take the power into my own hands so to speak so where I was in the past maybe more complementary to directors vision or story or script script now I hope to take that power into my own hands and be able to have the images that I make also be connected to something I would like to say or like to explore and to be able to stand alone in their own way regardless of being attached to some other film or thing yeah OK of true it’s because you already have a lot now to add it
I hope to also make changes in terms of the relationship between work and viewer. Rather than being one finished product screened in a cinema or online setting as I have previously done. For example I’d like to play with the idea of different frame sizes, different ways of projecting and showcasing all these images juxtaposing them in certain ways and presenting them in a more active or interactive manner.

Additionally, I hope to be able to take a more concise and researched approach to allow a true voice to shine from the images make. In the past this has been reliant on the spontaneity of 'whatever i find in the streets'. While I don't want to abandon that element of spontaneity, I would like to reign it in and apply it to a smaller or more framed discourse or topics or areas. I think especially on the back end of creating these works,  thinking things through  to a point where I can draw connections and conclusions, to make more of a statement about what is happening before me and what is happening at large.

The most significant choice I’ve made recently was to enrol into the Pete’s Farts Institute. Currently, I am working on a photo & video portrait series that explore the urban setting of Rotterdam and the people that exist within it. This is in attempting to connect with the people who surround me but also to showcase and understand different cultures, subcultures and public space. In doing so I am to make inquisitions into the relation between people and place, the notion of 'home' and the notion of being an 'outsider or a 'local' (if this truly exists).

I aim to find, capture and convey the manners in which humans choose to express themselves. How people choose to perform in the theatre of every day life- not necessarily song or dance but when they leave the house and enter the chaotic and shared public space. This fascination is tied to my passion for making images, both moving and still, and my passion for interacting with my environment. By doing so it allows the space for myself to be aware and connected, and I hope to elicit the same from my collaborators.
