The Glass - Bridge walk.

Zhibin Qin(1991) who is a Chinese film maker who normally makes films regarding social issues and critical matters in the world will have a performance show in the Normalville Contemporary Art Centre for Contemporary Art this summer. Here is Zhibin’s interview talking about his upcoming show.

* What is going on your performance? Basically, It is an exciting show about the artist walking and jumping on a 4-5 stories high of bridge made by strong transparent glasses. The bridge is consist of around 80 pieces of glasses and only 10 pieces will be replaced into easily breaking material ones. Underneath the bridge, a huge Inflatable woman doll connected 10 inflators which audience can participate is ready to be pumped. The artist will inform the audience that he will start jumping on the glass bridge and they can decide to pump the doll or just watch him falling down from the bridge.

* How are you going to build up the set? I am going to build up a very high bridge in the space, and the floor of the bridge is all made by special material glasses which are strong enough to support tons of weight, but I will replace some pieces of them into fragile glasses. (no one would know which has been replaced, even I would have no clue which one it is.) Below the bridge, there is a flat Inflatable female shaped doll and 10 inflators are placed for audience.

* What can audience experience in your performance show? When they come to the space, basically they will watch the show in their seats with VR. Glasses. Through the VR glasses, they can see a live video being recored by a drone flying around the artist and they can control and speak with the artist by using these equipment. In addition, as I mentioned before, the audience can participate into the show by pumping the inflators but it’s their choices.

* Is there any regulation which audience have to follow during the show? No, everything is possible. They can call, take a picture or record a video. They can do whatever they want.

* Why did you direct this show? What is message you want to convey through this show? The potential danger in this show is the key factor that building up the relationship between the artist and the audience, I want to do this show to see how does this relationship look like and how does it develop during the show. There are someone behaving risky, and there are many people watching him. Are they willing to come forward to him to prevent the potential danger? Or Are they going to just let him be in danger? This is my question and message which I want to know through this show.

* What was your inspiration? I read some articles about people just took photos of accident for fun when rather than helping it. I feel really sorry about people’s immoral behaving and I decided to alert people to potential danger.

* How can the audience reach out your show? I will upload pictures or video which shows me standing on the high bridge which looks really dangerous on all kind of social network such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and so on to get attention from them. I believe people who are interested in what will happen after that will come to my show.
