Thesis outline

What do you WANT to write? [What will the text be about? (thesis). What do you want to explore?

Storytelling as format like text on practice

how text speaks to the reader:  narrative and diary.

Like a story I tell my friends, casual and personal mode of address.

I want to explore my concept of identity and how it can be reduced or added to it to feel a whole. I will go over how I claimed my concept of identity and what inspired me and had an impact on my understanding of it.

How feelings relate to identity, feeling empty or missing.

I will talk about how I find a way to show missing emptiness.

Showing something that is not there by visualizing silence, missing, empty with different visual elements.

what do you want to write?

Be clear about HOW you want to tell your story.]

Outline three key issues you want to explore.

Please think of only 3 key issues.

  1. First key issue)what is my definition of identity? How do I see it and what inspired me about this topic? What’s out there about it?
  1. Second key issue ) what i felt and a narrative about how i felt when i could not show part of me that i felt make me and now they were missing.
  1. Third key issue) reflect on the process i went through to visualize all this and make a film out of it. A photo series a video dairy

How? (two sentences)

Basically I wanna show my feelings through film.

Money ( i felt like i am in a bondage and i can’t move that much - i was alive and breathing but no one could see the strings around me)

Being censored ( hiding behind a big umbrella)

Music - when i cant play piano i always feel like there is a string attached to me but no one can see it and it hurts like an ick all the time when i am not around piano or music

Camping - it is like a chiropractic for my soul - i love the pain in my back because of the long hours sitting next to the fire

Insecurities - i feel like everyone can see my face changes when i feel my insecurities

Poetry ( feeling an empty rectangle in right side of my body )

Sports (badminton racket - bouldering shoes - skydiving rig)

Social media - I am a very present person, i am present everywhere, in social media, in society

I love to express myself in everyway i can

Being from iran ( feeling too much - feeling a lot of side eyes on me)

My photos

My instagram photos

My youtube

My breakfast dishes

My doll

What is not there?

My books

My desk

My hair

My eyeliner

Script :

this is my room

i always try to have something in my room that shows this is sara’s room

like this toy

or this picture

like this plant

or this tool

i want this room to have something that when it goes missing you can tell that there is something wrong. this is not sara’s room

this doesn’t have sara’s identity

limitations :

No daylight to shoot

one person filming and editing and recording and writing the script

Writing a script for a story

Go through all of my twitter bookmarks and read watch and listen to all of them.

Read anything that is related to identity.

Capture all of these and put them together on one surface like the piece from joanna-dead,over and over.

Get inspired a lot by sunday nobody.

Read about people who don have an identity for example.

Workflow (two or three sentences)

Splitting the project into two stages. The first stage is reading/writing the script and making it very clear what I wanna make. Make everything as clear as possible. Write down the shots or feelings or anything involved in the project.

the second stage is to start shooting and editing at the same time and getting feedback on the project.

Timetable (Sept 23-July 24)

Sep - dec : done with the project’s script and idea, make prototypes, present the project proposal in december.

December - july : shooting and editing.

Relation to previous practice

All I have done till now was related to identity .Identity itself is the body of my practice and I am going into different paths to show any feeling related to identity. I wanna answer the question What is it about identity that i am so obsessed with it? To show my feelings towards it. I come back to it because i want to feel like a person and not lose myself. Have something that represents me.

Relation to a larger context

Choices made (two sentences)

Making everything simple like one element in the picture

Working more digitally and not filming

Sound design, using very complex sound design for a very simple visual.

  1. (conclude with how people approach concept of identity, how does it function in society?)
