IFFR: 10:00 - 18:00 Day 1: School of Sound Workshop with Larry Sider [- creating a narrative arc through sound] lg project space

How Does It Make You Feel?

Larry Sider will begin his two-day workshop with a talk about the grammar of sound and how it works with images. He will deconstruct soundtracks and describe the role of each component. Key to this discussion is the notion that any soundtrack (to film, video, theatre, the web, dance, etc.) communicates both literal and emotional information. And the effectiveness of a soundtrack can be judged by how it makes the audience feel.

Over the next day and a half, you will work in teams creating a soundtrack based on a work of art (yet to be decided). You will be able to record sound, use a sound library or take sound files from the web. The workshop will require basic sound editing and mixing skills. On Wednesday afternoon we will review all the works as a group.
