Graphc Design Arnhem (ArtEZ):

Publishing is inherently a ceaseless balancing act, or at times an unbalanced act. It is always affected, if not defined by the political and economical condition in which it is practiced. At Graphic Design Arnhem we have started a research publishing platform to explore the ‘practice and politics of publishing’. The platform seeks to readdress the question of publishing in its various stages from sources, writing, editing, production, distribution, and once distributed, again becomes a source. In short, we will research forms of decentralised and dispersed publishing, distribution and archiving as we examine strategies of exploring boundaries of publishing, distribution and knowledge production. A select group of students will present their work from the last semester.

PublishingLab:

PublishingLab is an applied research lab focusing on the intersection of publishing practices and digital technologies, creating output for screen, paper, and all imaginable in-betweens. It conducts publishing experiments that mix diverse practices, skills, tools and methods. During this session we will talk a bit more about the PublishingLabs’ ‘attitude’ and some of or our students will talk about their current insights on the Growing Influence Of Instagram In The Fashion Industry.  Specifically:

    - Hybridity (flyer, etc)
    - Prototyping examples (crafting longforms and fashion vs instagram)
    - Previous projects (Analogy, Wikimedia)
    - Make Book Make Soup workshop

Hybrid Publishing (WdKA):

Hybrid Publishing is the in-House Publisher of Willem de Kooning Academy. Researching and experimenting across a broad range of processes native to digital and analog media, Hybrid Publishing explores novel approaches to design, writing, reading, and dissemination, and embraces the pluriformity of publishing made possible through the legacies of Gutenberg’s press to present-day technologies. We will talk a bit more about our ‘hybrid principles’ and present some of our latest publications developed by several alumni of the WdKA:
The Art School Reinvented - how the web can be used as a platform for print. (Template)
Beyond Social - how a wiki functions as a collaborative and ongoing platform in an educational setting. (Manetta Berends)

XPUB:

Experimental Publishing is a new course of the Piet Zwart Institute's Media Design Master programme. The concept of the course revolves around two core principles: first, the inquiry into the technological, political and cultural processes through which things are made public; and second, the desire to expand the notion of publishing beyond print media and its direct digital translation. In this short presentation, the underlying vision of this new Master programme will be discussed, projects from current students will be shown, and a glimpse from the upcoming 2017-2018 thematic projects will be shared.
