For many young adults childhood memories of colourful animation films transported to the tv-screen with the help of black videotapes are forever engraved in their mind. The tapes themselves however, can be found nowadays collecting fungi at city dump or in the basement. It’s sad to see things disappear, but sometimes it turns out that they were never really there. Does such a thing as VHS animation actually exist? During this workshop, which is part of the ‘Home Video’ project which Niek Hilkmann and Sandra Gnjatovic initiated, an attempt will be made to create an ‘authentic’ VHS animation with the help of all possible equipment and techniques. Participants learn about all the ins and outs of filming and editing with VHS and contribute to the creation of a short movie which will be shown later during the VHS Festival on the big screen at WORM.
