WHAT ARE THE EYE RESEARCH LAB EVENINGS ?

EYE Research lab is an educational series focuses on experimental, avant-garde and art films, where students from various colleges, universities and institutes in the Netherlands put together their own programs and public presentation.

EYE on Art takes place, one evening per month for each Researchlab.

Always on a Tuesday at 19:15 pm.  On the 12th April 2016 we will present the first evening curated by the MMDC PZI.

Last season the lab worked with worked with the following academies: UvA (including 2 master programs), HKU, NFTA Film Academy, Rietveld Academie St. Joost Academy and the Royal Academy.

IF YOU GET INVOLVED WHAT WILL THE PZI SUPPORT

As it is important that the PZI Researchlab group visit the other Eye on Art events to get familiar with the film genre and the production/program possibilities in Eye, as well as to learn from the other students.

For each student who elects to be involved in the Researchlab group programming and creating the PZI programme for the April screening evening, the PZI will pay to purchase an EYE on Art pass (10 entrances for 50 euro, one pass is valid for maxiumum2 students).

The PZI will also re-imburse the fares for students in the Researchlab group  to attend the EYE Research lab screenings.

SOME DETAILS ABOUT THE  EYE RESEARCH LAB PROGRAMS

The Researchlab programs are different in content and presentation form but they all focus on avant-garde, artist and experimental film.

Some programs present new works or/and found-footage remixes (based on the Eye archive material) made by students; others focus on the history of the experimental film with works of known filmmakers. They all can employ music, performances, lectures and other interdisciplinary and multimedia elements.

Programs occur in the cinema 4 (68 pax) and 2 (127 pax, the tribune can be removed – more details during the introduction meeting in September); programs last 90-120 minutes; Eye provides its facilities, archive material and a production budget of 250 euro.

You consult with EYE curator Anna Abrahams during the process of curatorship, as she is responsible for the programs within Eye, and in relation to the public audience.

STUDENT ROLE

Putting together a research lab program offers you a good opportunity to share your concepts in a practical and theoretical way with an audience. It is also a good exercise in production and communication skills.

Students write while preparing an article with more background information about the program, which can be found on our blog then will be: https://ecinemaacademy.wordpress.com/category/current-year/

The EYE archive and collection are moving in 2016 to a new building in Amsterdam North and for this reason the access to the analogue material will be limited from Spring 2016.  It is advised to get in touch with Simona Monizza ASAP in regards to the Eye A/V material needed for remixes and screenings.

Three  months before the final presentation of the program a short text (150 words) about the concept of your Researchlab has to be delivered to Eye fort heir catalog and publicity material.
