"Work B**ch" performed by outsourced digital workers (2013)
The merging of party and work reflects the changing means of capital production in a post idustrial and digital economies. Working 'Because its all we know how to do" (David Guetta) and then partying excessively to relieve the routine enhances the body to maximize cultural production. The merging of work and partying in dance pop music reflects the contemporary immaterial worker who simultaneously contributes to both economies.
Participating in the work and party lifestyle is required of normalized citizens, we go to work within the ideological framework of an industrial market based economy and to celebrate we continue to produce capital through performing via the database of digital service based economies. The attitude of just work for the sake of work and then parting to relieve the burden is a disciplined, consuming and performing subject that enhances production of capital by simultaneously contributing to different markets.
The unification of working and partying is reflective of the changing value of labor in the digital economy; by communicating with digital services the active worker now produces capital in a continuous prosumer model. Communication is recognized as immaterial labor and forms capital value that mediates the hierarchical flow of information. Communication as capital has transformed how the subject can be an active worker in the digital economy. Intellectual labor in the digital economy is defined as operations that cannot be completed by computational systems. The Amazon turk market place trades intellectual labor for financial capital, a micro economy for cognitive surplus. I payed workers $1 to perform Britney Spear's song 'Work B**ch" , to outsource the production of art that highlights the changing value of labor in an economy of continuous cultural production where all we are able to do is work bitch.
