DESCRIPTION

I found myself interested in the idea of data moshing, data bending, and image hacking as practices used in glitch art. Glitches can be anything from errors to disrupted, corrupted data, malfunction, anomaly, or noise of the transmitting or receiving digital or analog signal. Glitch art therefore represents a certain mapping of the invisible,showing the lost information in a visual manner. The reason I decided to consider the glitch as a media object is the temporarity of the image or how ephemeral the underlying code. Related to my current research and theoretical part - the EMO entry I would like to question two aspects of the glitch as a media object: why and how is it considered to be a form of new media aesthetics and the fetishisation of technology. As some pervasive notion of how new digital aesthetics imply the seductive role of the technology or moreover the existing fetishism of how the technology had tend to failed. What is the main purpose matter of visual distortion or appropriation in glitch practices? Is it just a tweaking of visual characteristics or could it convey a certain context?
