The project will consist of two spaces connected by the internet, from the first room will be possible to control the music played in the second space looking at the reaction of the people in that room through one or more webcams. The communication in between the two spaces will happen from one side through the music on the other one through the reaction seen on the web cam.

To do list:

-find a good position for the cameras in the second space
-find a good way to show the video in the first room
-research on streaming: find a good alternative to skype
-design an interface for the player
-get a public address (at the moment we are able to do that in a local network, we aim to do that in the internet.)

WE HAVE:

   AUDIO
Command line ssh > host with music server >play music
VIDEO
Skype > interaction > feedback audio

WE NEED:

   AUDIO
Interface(CGI) > SSH > Public server(pzwart2) > subserver(studio) > playmusic
VIDEO
Streaming system (alternative to skype) > interface > shown video

project's description

As it's possible to see in the video attached to this page, named interface.mov, we've realized a web page from where is possible to change the music played in another room. As it possible to see from both the attachments the interface consist of a music player where are listed the songs available on the server and a live streaming where is shown the room where the server is located. Through this live streaming is possible to see what's happening in the room where the music is, for example to see people's reactions.

At this link is possible to see better what was going on in the room while we were changing the music there. for the first five minutes didn't happen that much...

Platform used for the streaming: ustream.tv
Software used for the player: rhythmweb, a web interface based on rhythmbox
The server was running rhythmbox on Linux
The interface was reachable from any computer within the same network via browser
