I've been talking about the issue of Virtual Identity since my prenatal now, but haven't really created something solid about it. Therefore I want to take this last opportunity, the final thematic project, to get this OUT of my system! grrrrrrr

Basic pointers:

1. God as the super-programmer, and we the virtual bits of His software called "earth".

2. Each object a defined function; a set class, and we the first-player of our individual game-frames.

3. Every creation carries the reflection of it's creator. In order to find ourselves, we behave in verbs, adjectives, nouns associated with our Creator; we also create.

4. We created the software. We got the internet running. And it gave us power. Virtual (non-substantial) power.

5. It let us play the dress-up game. And we recreated ourselves, in virtual.

6. Anti-humanism.

7. Suppressed truths.

8. Emotioanl after-effects of virtual-Me.

Becoming Virtual - Pierre Levy <<< anyone got the book? I tried to find it in the 2nd hand shop.

The Confessional-Booth in some Christian churches is a way to "confess" ones sins to a priest "anonymously", thereby getting them absolved.

"The Confessional" is a construction of a substantial Internet-space, where I will allow the people to enter it in "avatar-mode", and leave traces of their information/actions. But wait! Someone is listening and watching! The box is equipped with a camera and mic. The camera is placed in a way that the confession-makers face is only half-visible, or not at all. The people outside can see/hear, what this identity-less man/woman is doing in this space, where he/she is free of the eye of others, and is more relaxed in body-movement, language usage and carefree of what he/she might want to leave behind.

And this way, none of our sins are forgiven, but we are able to get rid of frustrations and otherwise embarrassing stuff, that the "cultured society" of the real world often stops us from doing (and gaining new sins perhaps); i.e. if you at least act to be cultured outside.

Possibilities:

  • Make a small program that gives the person a set of instructions to follow
  • Aim towards a project which combines this collected information to be "performed"
  • sing a song
  • read a drama
  • give some information (by taking a survey), and use that information to create some sort of visual map
  • create a montage of the vdo-recording (like Michael does)
  • echo the murmur of recorded voices in the exhibition space
  • let the inside space of the box be a canvas for people to play with
