Bartholomäus Traubeck, Trimester 3, 2012.

The Director's Cut Factory

Description

The Director's Cut Factory produces short and compressed recuts of popular titles from film history in a fully automated fashion. All the editing and post-production is done in a commercial online application which 'automatically turns plain videos to beautifully edited and produced Movies, perfect for sharing.'

The factory tries to investigate automated editing and it's built-in aesthetics by using popular movies from film history as it's source material instead of clips of home footage which the software is amde for. By using these perfectly produced pieces of film as the source the analysis, effects and editing routines of the software work on something that is already produced in amanner the software actually wants to emulate. Therefore the computer reproduces the movies for computers, for its own algorhithms.

Review

Abstract:

The review discusses the work and especially the rethoric and character of Jonathan Meese and does so by comparing him to another madman-like artist persona wit a very filterless style of thinking called Goodiepal.
