What do you want to make?

A way / method, to showcase virtual/physical clashes with contexts and representations. Possibility is, a visual essay based on an inner/outer mono or dialogue I'm currently having considering the rendered imagery of Rotterdam used in both (simulator) games and future architectural concepts of Rotterdam. But also going out of my bubble and reflect on multiple views rather than only my personal render.

How do you plan to make it?

I did a colloquium which was a good attempt in gather and discussing reflective criticism. Using a methodology gives me more freedoms and restrictions.

Using a sort of 'framework' that uses 'bricks' of information and places it in the context of both the complex realities of a city vs the hollow representations. To reflect.

What is your timetable?

October:

Read up on previously saved sources. Start sketching and writing thoughts down, collecting both sides.

November:

Think about the outcome. start the design and think of it either being a moving image, online or offline zine, a mocksite, etc.

Make a first draft for the first public moment. Maybe trigger a discussion. An anti-campaign. Parody? Satire?

I am not sure if satire is the way, merely showing the THE LACK THAT IS BINDING / CRACKS.

4nov: do a walk-in type deal and develop some sort of way to ask for contributions.

23nov deliver

December:

Continue and have something to show / discuss in Gent, to reflect in the project proposal and thesis outline. Have something of a 1,5-2 draft for the break to pick up after the winter break.

Why do you want to make it?

I'm in confusion by the idea of vision / images of the city through virtual representation. Mostly, because I feel that is an image that lacks multiple layers of complex contexts:

Accessibility(concerning disability)

livability (concerning the housing crisis)

affordability(pushing away the inhabitants).

leisureability (queer / underground scenes / festivals / gigs / event)

Who can help you and how?

Reading up on FemkeSnelting / Michael recently gave me a source about MassMoving which was more about public interventions

Relation to previous practice

POINXS / Video essays /

Relation to a larger context

Gentrification / urban decay / etc

FEEDBACK FROM MANIA / ANITA / MARLOES =
It is not clear 'visual essay' / website / game. too abstract and broad -> in depth explained to
Comic Book? -> dive into it. // Same
A lot of different points -> so many of these different HUGE topics.-> how do I link / elimination.
The focus point is the lack. Concern
What> visual essay > found footage > own footage / mixture? > documentation > personal POV vs marketing > contrast > gemeente represent vs lorenzo
hyperlink > same page
*supernice*

**THE LACK THAT IS BINDING / CRACKS**

Blending the PMOMM AND PROTOTYPE / CONCEPT
tactical media / venue -> SARS -> facemasks --> new supermarket -> don't come to the opening -> Anita en Mania sturen het nog op

A bittersweet afternoon walk, feeling like I was part of Renderdam.

The City of Rotterdam casted into the virtual mould of hollow representation. Setting a scene based on future promise. The design of this promise is then turned into realization as the inhabitants of the city turn into their 2D predecessors in the announcement of the real estate company.

As this idea / interpretation of Rotterdam is realizing and takes shape from its virtual concepts. The streets turn into a design rather than the opposite. As I mentioned before in PolderPunk 2077.  I see a lot of resemblance in certain games.

To me it's starting to feel that the commodification of the impression is more important because that brings revenue. Rather than realizing the value of the actual citizens. This idea of the new cool Rotterdam is of course not entirely negative. Considering the fact that its popularity rose in the last ~15 years.

The problem (I have) with this new angle is that it provides an image that lacks context. The lack of poverty (in Dutch context), proper (social) housing and *many other problems*. The idea of this metropolitan megacity is of course very attractive for outsiders.  (Sub)cultures are well celebrated even though the spaces where they manifest are in constant argument about their existential rights. I'd like to crosslink/refer this argument with mine, because both have to do with municipal zoning plans.

Does it fit within our wishes

  for what we want Rotterdam

  to appear to be?

What value is there morally to be found

if the revenue exceeds the needs of the demanding people

When I see the announcements of new promising areas, the showcases of both private and public investors and instances. The hollow imagery of the promise misses the filling: The cities contexts and needs. Instead of that, Rotterdam™ or ***R***™ creates a representation based on these contextless imagery. Rotterdam is being and worn as costume and the city undergoes a virtual *seeming* metamorphosis or rather **stagnation** and casts into Renderdam.

ANTITECTURE

I am in a constant battle with new and old buildings. The old Rotterdam buildings are built with the idea that everything of the inhabitants body is working (both the human is functioning = working and its body can function without any disabilities) _properly.

This is a positive render
