This has gotta be the worst spy balloon in the history of spy balloons.

'm at a hotel in South Myrtle Beach right now. I watched the whole thing unfold right above me. That was crazy!!!!!!!! edited part: Here's an eye witness blow by blow. About an hour before it was downed 3 fighter jets began circling it. They continued until it was about a mile or two over the water and then the jets disappeared. Then my phone would not make calls for a couple minutes for some reason. Then a jet appeared out of nowhere and fired a missile. It exploded into what looked like thousands of tiny pieces which fell down sparkling from the suns glare. The ripped ballon itself took about 15 minutes to fall into the ocean. The ocean was very choppy so I couldn't tell if there were any Navy ships out there. If anyone want's a piece of this thing you should find pieces on the beach over the next few days. I'm staying in the Landmark Hotel if you want an accurate location to look.

I am in Myrtle Beach. Just past 2:30 PM, I heard a very large boom and then heard a 2nd one maybe 30 seconds later. I am wondering what the 2nd explosion was. Could have been the F-22 breaking the sound barrier after taking the shot, but both boom sounded the same to me.

If the cameraman was paying attention they could have followed the instrument package going down, it was visible. They could have used a Navy Seahawk in the area at the same time, to follow the instrument package into the sea, then drop a locator beacon on the water surface above.

Military rarely use civilian media video footage. They tend to have their own means of tracking certain things.

They better be able to recover it… If not then i feel it was intentional.

Just shooting it down early makes no sense when there is so much more they can do with it. Most likely, they had great close up photographs of the "balloon" with one of the satellites above to figure out what it was even before it was over Canada. The decision making on security like this take place at the military level to come up with different options. So, likely that they wanted the craft intact and also see what is was interested in, if that is correct. So now they know what the Chinese wanted to know, and if it could actually maneuver, etc. It might be on public display in the Smithsonian one day, so the story told by the Chinese leaders about it will be compared to what is actually is. If the Chinese told the truth, then it will forgotten rather quickly.

It is impossible to "jam" a signal from it's source. You jam a receiver, not a source. A directed signal on a random frequency would be impossible to "jam". You'd need a nuclear reactor's worth of energy to spam signals on all frequencies in all directions from the source.
