Thesis Outline Luca Ottmann THESIS OUTLINE - GRADUATE RESEARCH SEMINAR 2022/23 - LUCA OTTMANN DRAFT I

Introduction:

Body: My thesis is going to be a combination of a series of essays (case studies) and a series of field reports, split up in a way where I at first look at how different filmmakers have tackled a specific obstacle, genre or technique, in most parts solely focused around cinematography, watch and analyse a selection of movies as a form of case studies and turn my observations and findings into an essay and then secondly use these case studies as a form of inspiration and a starting point for my own cinematographic work for the ‘quick bites’. This series of essays is going to examine different specific aspects and approaches to cinematography in relation to the work I am producing. More specifically each of these case studies is going to resemble a specific aspect or approach to cinematography directly relating to one or possibly more of the ‘quick bites’. Consequently each of the ‘quick bites’ is going to resemble one of the chapters of the thesis, consisting of a case study, a resulting essay, a field report of the relating ‘quick bite(s)’ and a comparative critique of my own practice and work with the observations and findings from the relating essay.
