Marian Donner – self destruction book This book is a manifest against the current dominant culture, in which there is a need to be as efficient, successful and healthy as possible. The author divides the book into 5 categories: stinking, drinking, bleeding, burning and dancing. In every chapter she motivates her beliefs by sharing anecdotes and quotes of famous philosophers, writers and artists. Every chapter is exposing a certain element that adds to a culture of ‘never being good enough’. After exposing the problem, she follows up with options and ways to counter these ideas.

Conclusion The conclusion is that there need to be more people that embrace the ugliness of life. We created a society in which everybody needs to be perfect, almost robotic. There used to be people that would question the dominant culture, but nowadays, everybody that doesn’t meet society’s standard is a failure. Therefore, there should be more people that rebel against the norm by defying it and through accepting that not everything is makeable.

'Proposal Each of us want to read upon a different book/article about feminism and photography & cinema. After we've read it, we produce a conclusion which we use to reflect on a specific media outlet (like a movie, a photo series etc.), Then we combine our analyses to make a zine. The theme of our zine is 'The patriarchal gaze in visual culture'. The idea of the zine resonates with the activist feminist angle and is appealing and easy to spread.
